I do believe this one is overly qualified for removing:

The reason it was removed is because it was never released officially as an EP or a promo disk, and only official releases are allowed in the Archives. Nothing personalSmile

i have a problem with this review, due to the fact that it blatently ignors the album and argues the point that the band shouldnt be on the site. probably my biggest pet peve and the most consitant mistake of reviewers. its on the site... its progressive enough, let it be and listen to the music and try not to act snobbish by telling everyone how you know what progressive music is and shouldnt be. post your complaint on a forum and not as a review.  oh, by the way,  comparing mastadon to dream theater and telling us that they arnt progressive because they dont sound like them? come on. ok sorry i dont mean to bash the reviewer.  here it is.

MASTODON — Leviathan

Review by King of Loss (Xiaojie Liu)

1%20stars This was Mastodon's 2nd release, at least in my books, but Mastodon's Leviathan is neither Progressive or Progressive Metal.

Even though, this band is an interesting form of Metal, it does not succeed in convincing me that it is Progressive at all.

1. It has neither the sound or the content of most Progressive/Progressive Metal bands such as Dream Theater or Pain Of Salvation. It has neither the virtuosity of Dream Theater or the dynamic nature of Daniel Gildenlow's Pain Of Salvation. The 13 minute epic does not sound remotely Progressive, but it is pretty good by its Alternative Metal outlines.

2. What kind of Progressive Metal band slams another of its colleague? Even though, some of the old school Progressive Metal members have slammed recent Prog Metal bands as being keyboard metal bands, Mastodon are anything but old. They are new to the Metal scene and not old school Progressive Metal, or anything but Progressive.

3. When do Progressive Metal bands have regressive sounding music? I do not know.

This album might be good on another level, such as the level that it deserves to be in: metalcore, alternative metal or such. Much like Death and some of the Metal bands on this site, this band is not Progressive. It might be closer than Death, but its song structure nor its musical styling sounds remotely close to being Progressive. So, for more Progressive audiences, this album is a big thumbs down. If you are a fan of Metal, then try this album, but it is far from being up to the calibur of an album such as Blind Guardian- Imaginations from the Other Side.

Possibly the worst review I've ever seen. He even admits not even remembering a few of the songs on the album!

There's not much wrong in giving an album only 1 star, but I believe you should be able give a few good arguments to why you only give it 1 star!

I was writing my review for the album and found myself with this (seems like Mike Portnoy has been here bashing bandsWink):

ANGRA — Angel's Cry

Review by mike_portnoy

1%20stars Terrible Album! They are way too hard of trying to play prog. the guitarists are good but the vocalists sounds funny. Too much high notes that sounds terrible! My first and last album of Angra, sorry guys.

4%20stars I would just like to point out the similarity between some of the material on this recording and early "Stand Up/Benefit" era Jethro Tull. Just listening to the last track alone should ensure such a comparison.

ELOY — Timeless Passages - The Very Best Of Eloy
Review by Autoband

2%20stars I usually don't go into other people's reviews, but seyo's review of this compilation is dead wrong and just dreadful. He's discarting Eloy like some kind of B band that is uninteresting, dull and only suitable for "teenage kids" trying to understand somewhat ambitious music as he calls it. He also says Frank Bornemann has bad English, wrong again, he has an accent, but the lyrics are in good English (unlike seyo's text with various errors in it). Ok sorry for my ranting I will stop now.

In my opinion Eloy is actually a great band that any prog lover should've listened to. Sure Eloy isn't one of the top ten best bands ever, but good nonetheless. Personally I don't like compilations, and since this one isn't a particulary great one it doesn't get a good rating. Still it's very long and contains some of Eloy's best work. I suggest you do not start here though, rather go with Inside if you like really psychedelic rock. If you're more into space rock then Ocean is the album for you. If you want some of the lighter stuff then I suggest Colours with the great Illuminations track.

So please, don't get discouraged by the other reviews if you don't know Eloy. Eloy really is worth trying and you probably won't regret it, however don't start with a compilation like this one.

A very passionate post on a subject that would be worth a topic on the Prog Lounge. Unfortunately, other than "We've got atmospheric lines in that 70's prog style", there is just not that many in it about music. Good information, just not the place to put it.

I was (and still am) seriously impelled to delete this review.... however, any information, even the minimum, is sometimes helpful for some less-known bands until better reviews are available.

Not inappropriate, but worth mentioning:

http://www.progarchives.com/Review.asp?id=94017

This review is listed twice on the album details page - once under collaborator reviewers, once in the 'normal humans' Wink section. Probably an mistake.

FAR CORNER — Far Corner

Review by pratyay

5%20stars When I first downloaded the track 'Silly Whim'... I was totally blown away. Immidiately I stormed the local HMV and other big stores for the albums... but none was on stock... so I ordered one, and here I am, after 5 weeks of relentless waiting, writing the review, after a good 7/8 spins!

A Masterpiece? Certainly!... Original? Of Course! (We all have our influences... but how they bring out fresh ideas is something to beholden)... Inspired musicianship? Just listen to the album and find out! Finally... Is it worth reapeated listening and does it have what it takes to stand the test of time? Well, for the 1st question... the materials here are extremely well composed to say the least and at the same time have bits and pieces of improvisations to let the performers shine... lots of cello layering, lovely piano/hammond organ, intricate cymbal patterns, masterful bassline --- jems to be discoveedr with repeated listening. For the 2nd question, would I have called it a masterpiece if I thought it wouldn't stand the test of time?

I am a very eclectic music fan... I listen to almost all kind of music there is except for Pop/NuMetal/Punk... It is very hard to be regarded as a Masterpiece in my book...

I won't go too deep into song by song review or the performers, but this I can say: 1) Modern Classical Music Fans (Minus some Booooring minimalist music) --- Check this out... You will treasure it 2) Symphonic Prog Fans --- If you like originality, You will love it 3) RIO/Zeuhl/Avant Fans --- Start digging this baby ASAP 4) Jazz/Fusion Fans --- This it the ultimate marriage of rock/jazz and chamber 5) Prog Metal (Spastic Ink/Cynic/Spiral Architect/Symphony X[Divine wings/Odyssey]/Dream theater/Dillinger Escape Plan/Gorguts/Gorgasm [Nerotripsicks]) Fans --- Are you still reading this review? GO get it.. 6) King Crimson/Rush fans --- Why are you still on this site... go to amazon.com or your favorite music store... 7) Univers Zero/Hoyry-Kone/Present/Zappa/Mister Bungle/ALAMAAILMAN VASARAT/French TV/Absolute Zero fans/Egg --- Shame on you! You call yourselves fans and still don't own this album! ********************************************************** 8) DIE-HARD Neo Prog/Pop Prog/Smooth Jazz(?)/Easy Listening/Disco/Britney Spears/Hip Hop/(C)Rap Fans and all othe closed minded folks --- Please listen to your already favourite musicians(?) instead and don't bother to think for yoursself for a change...

HAVE Fun guys!!!
