I'm not really an expert but Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet and Stratosfear are all very good.

One of my favorite newer instrumental prog albums Guapo: Five Suns or Black Omi. Dark, heavy and melodic, a bit similar to KC 73-74.
Flamen Dialis Maneige (three first) Dedalus (debut) Tangle Edge: Tarka Morte Macabre Sensation's Fix: Portable Madness National Health Shylock, Tangerine Dream (Phaedra might be a good start), and Soft Machine (Third) are great suggestions. There's hundreds, maybe thousands of great ones out there, really. Since you stated you hate Magma (probably my favorite band) I stayed away from the extreme, very experimental bands and albums. |

I just stumbled across an excerpt from Guapo's Five Suns (five suns ii), YEAH!
 That's the kind of stuff I like !! Can't wait to try your other suggestions Rocktopus....I did give TD a chance and so far (for what i can hear on their site) i might get used to this "electronic prog". And, no. Magma is way too extreme for me.  |

Morte Macabre I did enjoy as well, for what I could stumble upon.
And I'm listening to National Health in the background... I don't know why but it kind of reminds me of Gentle Giant (which I love) without vocals ! |

A lot of Post Rock and Jazz/Fusion is iinstrumental, as noted by earlier posts.

Enigmatic Oceans - Jean-Luc Pontry
The Grand Wazoo - FZ, I like it more than Waka-Jawaka, although "Big Swift is ana amzing song.
Nova Express - NebelNest French Avant-Gade, soudn a lot like King Crimson. Good Stuff.
Amarok - Mike Oldfield 60 Minute Title Track, Oldfield uses over 60 instruments, very pastoral and
avant-garde. One of his best albums.

PFM's Stati Di Immaginazione is going to be mine next choice, that's for sure. And Ain Soph's A Story Of Mysterious Forest, as recommended by honganji
 , is sure to follow. I did notice the fact that most instrumental bands are from the Jazz/Fusion sub-category. I wasn't drawn to this genre at first but I have to say that a couple of real gems are hidden in there... Thanks for keeping the replies coming in

Check out Cabezas de Cera, in a couple of songs they speak, but their music is instrumental, original and great.
