Have to say 'Argus' is by far my favourite of their albums. Their first two are excellent though, but I was hugely disappointed with 'Wishbone Four' when I heard that, and don't like the albums I've heard since that era like 'Number The Brave', 'There's The Rub' or the songs from 'Here To Hear' I've heard. It's a shame their last album, 'Bona Fide', wasn't on there, as it seemed to me it was a, well, bona fide return to form. Indeed, two songs on there, 'Ancient Remedy' and the superb 'Come Rain Come Shine', were as good as anything on 'Argus' imo. Their 90s 'comeback' album of sorts 'Illuminations' was OK too. |

Argus , to me it sounds as genuine progressive rock feautring great duo-guitar play, alternating compositions and some subtle keyboard work.

"Argus" overshadows all their other albums. The self titled first one was excellent though. Their lowest point by some way has to be "Locked in", I never wanted to hear a vocoder again after that album. By the way, their song "Everybody needs a friend" is an absolute classic. It's on "Wishbone 4" I think. |

I'm going to admit I've only heard their first 4 albums, but I can't imagine one being better than Argus.

Exactly ... I voted for Argus because virtually every song is special ... and the album is one of the greatest ever, by any band, IMO But before I heard Argus, I was quite in love with 4 ... a patchier effort ... but with at least three superb songs ... including the sentimental Everybody Needs A Friend ... the gorgeous Ballad Of The Beacon, Sorrel (another marvellous wah-wah solo if I recall) and the mean closer Rock'N'Roll Widow ... |

Argus for me to, easily their best Followed respectively by the debut and Pilgrimmage I love the Live Dates album, too However I was always so disappointed at 4 , with its basic rock attitude, what a bringdown after Argus. |

Have to say I agree that I found 'Wishbone 4' something of a let down after the brilliance of 'Argus'. Other albums like 'There's The Rub' and 'Number The Brave' were somewhat weak too in my opinion. |

One vote for Pilgramage, a much underrated album that gets overshadowed by Argus. It has a lot of tracks every bit as good - Vas Dis, title track, Valediction, Lullabye and Alone. Love that twin lead guitar sound of Ted and Andy. It is partially spoilt though by two godawful 'boogie' tracks Jailbait and Where were you Tomorrow? From the Ash albums I've heard the first three are the strongest. After that they seemed to get less ambitious and more West Coast. |

Argus, because there are no "boogie" tracks with names like Rock & Roll Widow or Jailbait!

The first album. My first exposure to the band - when Peel was pushing their music - the one which has consistency. And the album's long track Phoenix is a gem and not the overblown version heard on live albums. Problem with Argus and Pilgrimage is WA can't make their mind up whether to decent prog or decent AOR, so we get albums with both.

Can't believe someone voted for the very poor "Locked In".
