Mine is from a now-forgotten movie from the '80s, UHF. In it there is a fake ad for the movie Gandhi 2. "No more Mr. Passive Resistance!" Cue footage of Gandhi beating up people, eating steak, and shooting up a restaurant. I thought that it was funny, and I took it as my name for Halo, but I accidentally misspelled it. I decided that I liked it more that way anyway, and it's slightly less disrespectful to the memory of Gandhi. Then when I joined the online world I kept the name. UNfortunately, many people interpret it to mean that I am a second Gandhi. Which is sort of true in real life, as most of the time I am very passive in real life; but I can be somewhat violent in real life and even more violent when arguing on internet forums.

I was wondering if you got your name from UHF when I first saw it. Great movie.

It sure is.
Mine comes from a badge I got when I visited the UN office here in Warsaw. I thought 'Visitor13' had a nice Area 51-ish ring to it. Unfortunately they didn't let me keep the badge .
My previous nick, Manunkind, came from an e. e. cummings poem.

My nickname comes from a Phoenix (Romanian prog folk band) song which is called Negru Vodă - Balada. "Vodă" is another word for "voievod" and this is how Romanian rulers were called in the past. "Negru" means black and is the actually the ruler's name. The song is about Negru Vodă who rallies (sp?) his soldiers to fight the invading army. Sorry for the thread necromancy, folks.

'Fandango' is a track of Pain Of Salvation's 'Remedy Lane' album... IMO one of the finest albums of the decade....
plus, it sounds kinda cool...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Mine is unimaginative in its origin. It's a corruption of Log-in Name. Many people who know me reasonably-well online (I was a prodigious member of a sci-fi site) assume it's all due to Logan's Run.
Actually, at the first board, a long defunct comedy site, I registered for using a nickname (had always used my real name before that), it asked me to fill in my "Log-in name," so I chose "Log-in Name" as my log-in name (figured that would be easy enough to remember). However, that seemed a bit too unwieldy, so I quickly shortened it to Log-in, but that still seemed awkward. So I changed it to Logan -- Logan's Run did inspire my final 'nick' change.

I'm a die-hard SF-fan.
Arthur C. Clarke is one of my favourite SF-writers of all times. He wrote the screenplay for Kubrick's 2001:A Space Odyssey.

among other things, the Marquis de Laplace predicted the existence of the black hole some one hundred years before it was proven. more than anything else, that sort of presience boggles my mind.
it's not my surname but I wish it was.
