bhikkhu, I'll definitely look into them. It'll be hard to beat V2, however. Man, is that a powerful live disc. Now I know why people say their live stuff is better than the studio.

K. Crimson hit the nail on the head. When I first started listening to King Crimson, I had a tough time. Part of me wanted to sell the discs or trade them in, but I held on hoping they'd catch on. I can't say that the 2nd or even 3rd listen caught on; but, when I listened to The Power To Believe again a few weeks ago, it really clicked with me.
Oh, and one other thing...is there a better live KC disc than VROOOM VROOOM? If there is, I want to get it because V2 is wildly entertaining.

"B'Boom" is pretty good, but I think the favorite is "The Night Watch." I only have these two, but I think a consensus would also bear this out.

KC is not a band with a definite style or personality. You should try to listen to the records before purchasing them, otherwise the disapointment might be huge . At least that's my experience. I love the symphonic phase 69-72, I enjoy parts of the 73-74 records and I just can't connect with the A.Belew records.
I don't know if that's helpful to you. |
It's hard to listen to a KC album once and know if you like it or not. It took me a long time to like Lizard, but now it is in my top 3 or 4.

You should check out The power to believe if you don't have it.

Eetu is right - The Night Watch should be on your list, for a future purchase. Several of the tracks on SABB are re-mixed/overdubbed from the gig documented on "The Night Watch".
Of the others on the list I would try for Lizard. The only KC albums that have disappointed me have been Islands manily because of Boz Burrells vocals, & Earthbound is perhaps their most disappointing live album.

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret: Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

Of the ones I know, Starless And Bible Black is the best of them IMO.

The ones not listed are the ones that I already have (I've got both THRAK and Red).
The winner is Starless & Bible Black. Picked it up at lunch and out of the Wetton era, this could be my favorite. Of course it will take more listens, but it's really struck a chord with me so far.
Thanks for the suggestions!!

Since you really enjoy VROOM..., then get TRAK.. as it is in the same period and same sound.
While not mentioned, you may consider RED which is in the same mold as Larks.. along with Starless

From te ones you listed, next you must get is either "Islands" or "SaBB"... Given my momentary mood, I'd go with the first one, more mellow and peaceful.

In the Wake of Poseidon is as much a must-have as In The Court... is. In fact I prefer ITWOP to ITCOTCK.
