So, this has been my iPod experience:
I got it for Christmas 2 years ago, and I have loved it and I use it a good bit. However, last October its harddrive died and it had to be replaced. Luckily, it was still under warranty so the replacement was free and I didnt lose any music. So I thought nothing of this. about 3 months later the same problem occurred, but luckily it was still under warranty, so I recieved another free replacement and thought nothing of the situation. TODAY: I am driving along rocking out to Deadwing when the song stops, and the damn thing freezes up. So i restart it and all that pops up is this icon: awww how cute a little ipod with a sad face. this, of course means trouble. this is really ridiculous. I take damn good care of the thing, I keep it indoors, I keep it charged, it has a leather case to keep it protected, but still it fails. I use it just about everyday, but it should really be able to survive being used. I call the support number, after having exhausted all the options on the support website, only to have them inform me that the warranty is only good on the FIRST ipod, so this 3rd ipod is no longer covered and repairs will cost $319!!!! So I say iPod. Sadly, at this point in my life I don't think i could function properly without a good mp3 player with large capacity. Any suggestions? |

That sucks. I have many friends who have had similar problems with iPods.
I bought a Creative Zen Micro from my friend for $60 (since he got an iPod and didn't need it) and it ended up breaking after 4-5 months. I say screw portible music altogether, but that's just me. |

You could always go with a Creative player. They might be bigger than the Ipod and heavier, but they are cheaper than an ipod and are relatively simple to use. On the downside, they are nowhere as sleek as the ipod and itunes is an easier program to use than the Creative software (but the Creative software is relatively easy to use). I got a 60 gb player for the same price as a (then-priced) 20 GB Ipod.

I will never own an IPod in my entire life. You have to title every track (to my knowledge) while uploading. You have to store music files on your computer for safe keeping. You have to charage batteries.
It's just too much of a hassle, give me the barbaric CD player any day.

I'm seriously considering going back to the CD player, but the problem is I've been spoiled by
a) the small size of the mp3 player b) the convenience of having literally 40GB of music with me at all times accessible at the touch of a button. I'm so ruined by my year and a half of ipod use I'm not sure I could go back to carrying around CDs and actually having to hold the CD player in my hand! |

I'm sorry to hear about that. I have heard similar complaints, but I
have never had a problem with my iPod. I have had it for years and I
have dropped it on occassion, but it still works great. I guess I am
magic.

I have a Creative mp3 player, it's really great. I holds photos and 8gbs of music. I don't think I would ever get an Ipod, it's a huge pain in the ass to delete stuff according to my friends that have them.

I like having tangible circular disc-esque thingies.
Also, having more cds than anyone in my school raises my ego quite nicely.

I'm sorry to hear about your iPod dude. They may look pretty but I don't like them. I don't think they make these anymore, but I have a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB (whoo). I've had it about 16 months and aside from the occasional hiccup in which I think the hardrive reconfigures, it's fine. It's a bit chunky and not pretty to look at, but at the time, it held twice as much stuff for almost half the price of an iPod. Plus, it has a much sturdier design and it's slipcase is much more effective than the flimsy iPod leather pouch.

Get a Creative player - they're compatible with Janus based services (Napster, Yahoo, Urge). I have a 6GB Creative Zen Micro and it works flawlessly! |
