let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Why should you be proud of your own achievements? You just happened to be born in your body, in your environment and with your genes

Achievements are overrated. Wink

Precisely.

And even if they weren't, why should I be proud of someone else's achievements?

Having said that, I'm not ashamed of being Polish, either.

Mais, etant d'origine Francaise, Je ne peut pas laissez passe un Belge sans dire rien...(Sorry for the spelling mistakes, I have never learned to write in French).

In a globalist point of view, there is no such thing as treason I believe, unless some aliens start attacking Earth and I join them.
The reason you are baffled by the concept is because you don't have the right one. Joining the other side because you think your country is wrong is called defecting--just don't expect that you can ever go back to your original country, obviously.

Treason, however, is selling your country out for money. Take the Hansen case. A few years ago this CIA agent, Hansen, was found to have been selling secrets to the Russians. He had several million dollars in a Swiss bank account to show for it. Did he do it because he thought the Russians were right and the US was wrong? Of course not, he did it for the money. That's treason.

I'm very proud of Puerto Rico for many reasons (sports, history, culture, beaches, girlsCool). But I can't say I'm proud of the goverment. Where bankrupt! and there are alot of political problems that doesn't seem to end and is all mostly because of our corrupt leaders. There are other problems, but I won't mention all of them.

Having said that, I do have pride for my lil island. It's just that its slowly going downhill.

The possessive of it is ITS.
Apostrophes are NOT used for plural nouns. (Unless it is absolutely necessary for it to not be confusing, such as A's.

Money - that's t'reason why he did it.... LOL

If the life span of the cosmos were mapped to the Roman calendar, human beings have existed approximately as long as the last few minutes of December 31st.

Do nations still seem important? Wink

I'm not proud that I'm a German, but I'm also not ashamed that I was born here. You can't be proud of the state you live in. You can only be proud of something that you reached.

That's my opinion...

I can be proud of being an American, while not being proud of our current government. It stinks right now, and the greedy narrow people seem to control everything. At least I have the right to say that. Sure, that may seem unpatriotic to some, but that's really what the U.S. is supposed to be about. I only hope more people will wake up to the fact that it's about everybody, not just a select few.
