Another great one:

Noekk - The Grimalkin

A bit different than the album they released last year ... it's only 3 tracks (10, 10 and 20 minutes) and IMO is a really unique combination of 70s retro prog and a (black) metal influence though. Mind you - it doesn't sound like Black Metal at all - no growling, no double bass ... really unique!

The news I get from other progheads is that most of them tend to fall asleep during David Gilmour's new album, I have to check out this soon Wink !

Then they clearly have no taste in music of the beautiful and mellow kind Wink Seriously... check it out, you won't be dissapointed. Gilmour is still just as good at singing and playing guitar. Just check out the solo in "The Blue" for example. He even makes his debut at the saxophone on the album. Very nice string arrangements by polish Zbigniew Preisner by the way. Can't compare it to PF though. 4,5/5. Clap

I actually do fall asleep to it sometimes, but that isnt a bad thing. It is just a very mellow and relaxive album. I love it to death, definitely Gilmour's best work in years.

The best album I have heard from 2006 is TFK - Paradox Hotel.

The Gathering - Home
Proto-Kaw - The Wait of Glory
The Tangent - A Place In The Queue

Then again, I don't buy a whole lot of brand-new prog, but these are some I've picked up and liked. Actually the Tangent I'm kind of waffling on - I like the concept of a side project for a super-group of prog musicians, but at times they already sound a bit dated, so I'm curious to see how people still feel about that one a year or so from now.

Oh, and Super Furry Animals Love Kraft is excellent. I think that's maybe a 2005 (at least the CD case says that), but it was really late in 2005.

I agree on the Oceanside. It's a flawed album, but with some real high points. You Can't Keep a Bad Man Down is tremendous.

Can't believe I forgot Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine. Absolutely wonderful, full of intricate Pop melodies with some unusual twists and turns.

David Jackson only plays on the first Tangent album "The Music that Died Alone".

Theo Travis plays on the last two.
