I've remastered about 750+ live recordings in Cool Edit Pro over the last 10 years so this was an easy enough task to accomplish. I synchronized the audio on the drum beats just to make the timing more accurate. It's a neat affect, however because of the nature of Viginti Tres you could probably accomplish that affect with a lot of songs. So take this with a grain of salt.

I tried it out and although the effect is pretty cool, it wasn't as awesome as the post seemed to describe it. It's a neat fit, not perfect though, and I agree that with the nature of Viginti Tres, it would be relatively easy to sync song with that. Having said that, are there other pieces of music that, when overlapped, create a cool effect?

I am going to try this when I get home. Sounds incredible.
Do you think there is any significance in the title of Viginti Tres? All that I know is that it's latin for twenty three.

Actually, it's not all that hard to conceive.
1. Write a song and add some spacey filler tracks. 2. Excise spacey filler tracks and split in half. 3. Make spacey filler tracks separate tracks on album. 4. Make people think you are a genius for doing a simple cut/paste job on your album.
Guys, this is nothing to really marvel at. In planning, it probably took next to no effort to do this.

^ you two don't have a clue, do you? That's not at all what's supposed to be happening here.
BTW: I tried it - I must say that I'm not overwhelmed - and I'm not sure if Tool planned it that way. About halfway through Wings Pt. 1 there is a major/minor discrepancy that they would have avoided if this was intentional.
No, I rather think that these tracks fit together because they are similar (and the same tempo), that's all. Admittedly the end (the last two minutes) sound cool with Viginti Tres "growling" in the background.

While not being anything groundbreaking or amazing, the synch up is admittedly pretty cool and definitely intentional, esp w/ the vocals call and answer. Also, try synching up every song at once with Audacity. Nothing happens, but im sure it sounds freakin hilarious.

Why not play all the songs of the album simultaneously ... I'm sure there'll be even more call and answer. ;-)

Omg I did actually put every song simultaneously playing. It is sooo funny. Sounds like f***ed up deathmetal or something...I'm gonna use it as my sisters alarm in the morning *without her knowing of course.... * Point is, its a cool little idea. Nothing to make or break the album, just another little thing for the fans. I do actually like finding "hidden stuff" in the albums though.....*again w/ the no life thing*

Yes, because Death Metal is basically a couple of guys putting a few Tool songs together.
Actually, that sounds like a good idea. I should experiment with recording two different songs play at the same time and see what results I may achieve. Actually, I think I have better things to do now.

is Zitro having you on?? i don't have any tool albums so i can't try it but i remember something like this with the run-out groove on the sgt.pepper album, if you played it backwards you heard a secret message or something, though i never got it and the beatles denied it was there. also some time ago there was a thing going round the internet about speakers, if you placed 3 coins on top of each speaker in a triangle, 2 at the back and one at the front, it made a "big improvement". i almost fell out with some friends over this as they tried it and were convinced it really improved the sound, though i really couldn't hear any difference. we argued long into the night!! a born skeptic, i felt like the little boy in the song about the "king's new clothes".

I had some fun listening to the combined songs ... didn't take much of my precious time. But indeed I think he's having us on!

I can't say I've tried it, but I can tell it will be a waste of time. Viginti Tres is a completely useless track, what a dumb reason to include it.

Whether this is a load of old guff or not,I have absolutely no idea why someone would use this thread just to denigrate Tool and their fans. If you cant write anything constructive dont bother writing anything. You know who you are... This isnt a Tool appreciation thread,so butt out! I also reiterate what Easy says about file-sharing. Keep it off the forum, what you do in private is not our concern.

I just realized my calling in life....to put EVERY SONG ON MY ITUNES INTO ONE TRACK PLAYING SIMULTANEOUSLY! It'll be the biggest file EVER!

Actually it wouldn't be any bigger than the longest song.
