hahahah I thought the same thing when I saw Space Prog at the beginning
of his post...no not Hawkwind.... Sonic Attack IS what you use to
wake your neighbors up with at 2 in the morning.

70s Tangerine Dream is terrific for "chilling out." Try Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet, Stratosfear, and my fave Force Majeure (somewhat livelier).
 
Anthony Phillips -- The Geese and the Ghost is quite lovely too.
"New age" guitarist William Ackerman has some very beautiful stuff too -- his Past Light is very highly recommended (tres relaxing).

I agree Canterbury is good. Cetainly HATFIELD AND THE NORTH , Rotters Club in particular. Better By Far from 77 by CARAVAN is nice [ despite the fact that Reviewers here have not been kind to it] and Modern Masquerades by FRUUPP also fits your requirements,but not so much their earlier releases--- offered for what its worth. Enjoy.

I'll third the Bo Hanson LotR and add Music From Watership down. Another vote from me for The Snow Goose by Camel. To me Barclay James Harvest on thier Octoberon lp is proggressive light rock. Somestimes it kinda jams but overall its subtle and muted.

I find Electronic Prog like Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze to be very mellow and beautiful. I love post rock and especially GY!BE, but I find it far to emotional and powerful to 'chill' to, as it makes me feel like I want to convulse in musical ecstasy on the climaxes of their songs. For the Klaus Schulse, try Timewind, though. It's beautiful
