Yeah, in the case of the Passion Play disc--a good beer coaster!

Here I'm shadowed by a dragon fig tree's fan
ringed by ants and musing over man.

Sweet Hope Suit by Salem Hill.  I'm not a big fan of these guys, and this song is, to me, 33 minutes of boring music.

First Light - Shadow Gallery

I don't know what's going on with this band...with every album they get worse!

Funny, but for me it is THE prog-epic to measure all other epics by. And it is "Magnum Opus", by the way.

Me too - it used to be that old warhorse 'Suppers Ready' or 'Gates Of Delerium', then I heard 'Plague..'

BTW - 'Magnum Opus' by Kansas (especially on their first live album) is a much under-rated classic.

They would be OK if it weren't for the lyrics ; this is the kind of sub-standard, shallow lyrical content that gives prog a bad name...

I love 70's Tangerine Dream but the vocals in 'Bent Cold Sidewalk' from Cyclone -78, are truly awful imo. No wonder its a controversial album.

'The Remembering' from 'Tales of Topographic Oceans' by Yes makes me very impatient as well. I think the rest of the album is quite good.

VdGG's 'A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers' is my favourite epic.
Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

Disregarding 'Karn Evil 9' for the sake of fair competition, Cluster's untitled 'track 3' from their debut, could be considered as a top contender.

Magnum Opus is my favorite instrumental of all time. It's an incredible
track though it's not really an epic song.

mmmmmmmmmm

Revolution 9 and Moonchild : Noise

Cassandra Gemini : Still Noise ... Horrible. Maybe they use this crazy stuff for torture. (althrough there is a great moment in the piece where the singer starts screaming while a symphonic riff is repeated for a few minutes)

Passion Play and Duel With The Devil are some of the most pointless, pretentious, incoherent, directionless epics I have ever heard.

Yes - Mind Drive - The middle section and the finale shows you that yes can't just make epics anymore. The first 5-7 minutes are great though.

Spock's Beard - Healing Colours of Sound --- Jeez, Neal had his bad days.

There are many more, but I wanna stop for now.

I agree. Maybe not the worst but certainly not essential. What about "all the seats were occupied" on the 666 album? 25 minutes of continuous dissonance without any structure!
