It's a hard question, because most bands put especial dedication and their best effort in their epics, mostly because epics are usually the base of an album, so it'sreally hard to fuind one so bad to call it the worst.
So I'll take the word worst as my least favorite even when it still has some good things:
Iron Butterfly's In a Gadda da Vida: Again, it's not bad, as a matter of facts starts promissing, even the somehow mysterious lirycs are interesting, but soon you find they are going in circles, simple variations and endless guitar solos over the same chord with the exact same bass and drums line.
As much as I like organ, this track is an excess, if lasted 50% would have been a masterpiece, tiresome and boring at some point at less you're smoking funny stuff or as Homer Simpson said "If you're having a good time in the back seat of your car" (Even when if you're young enough to have sex in your car, 20 minutes is normally too much time)

Hey Ivan. I'm going to see Musical Box do The Lamb for the second time. Yahoo, yah beauty.
It's the 'final' Lamb tour so don't miss it if you're a millionaire.
The venue is bigger than the last one- very big, in fact- Glasgow SECC.
They must be doing something right.
Love the pic btw.

Yeah 'In A Gadda Da Vida' seems to be padded to me as well; there's simply not enough in it to last 18 minutes- thus why they resorted to tedious soloing. Prog is often accused of featuring 'noodling', yet to me most prog epics have restrained and structured solos- 'In A Gadda...' doesn't, and long outstays its welcome. That said, the first part with the monolithic riff and mysterious melody and the neo classical organ refrain at the end tends to make me forgive these shortcomings.

Probably something by TFK
Thus far I've heard four songs of theirs and all they are is endless minutes of meaningless w**king
I'll try to hear a whole album to make sure if that's really so, but so far I'm pretty unimpressed

"2112," and "Cygnus X-1" are average, NOT GREAT epics.
Rush can be superb at short to mid-length songs ("Xanadu" being an exception) but just can get the epics down IMO.

You want to start some trouble, eh?

I don't know if I would consider that an epic. It's more like an album
that is long and sometimes boring. Pink Floyd's last epics were on
Animals but post Wall Floyd does ten dto have an epic sound behind it.
The Wall is cool, but there is a disproportional amount of songs I
don't like than I like so I don't listen to it in its entirety often.

I wouldn't say this is the "worst" epic ever, but I dont care much for this one:
Shadow Gallery - First Light... it's not a bad song at all, just the endless waste of time throughout of it really annoys me. Whether they're taking up time w/ silence or just soft ambient noise, it just bothers me.

Hands down the worst progressive rock epic of all time is A Passion Play by Jethro Tull. I'm a hardcore Tull fan so I have perspective. This album is sheer masterbation. Thick as a Brick is a brilliant album, but has a few flat spots (side two mostly). A Passion Play is a full albums worth of these flat, uninspired, pointless spots. Passion Play represents everything that the critics and rock fans have said about prog for years, arrogant self indulgence! To have a point, direction of thought, and concept is always ideal before writing an albums worth of material. Ian's directionless drivil along the Fullum Rd. is pure filler. Contractual obligations - Filler. Passion Play is a black eye to the Tull catalogue and progressive music altogether. Sometimes the critics are correct.
Now, I realize this a very negative review of "that album", and I apologise to those I,ve offended, but it is something I feel very strongly about. I listen to a lot of music and am a good judge of quality, whether I like it or not, I can admit quality. As I said earlier, I'm a hardcore Tull fan and can say, head held high, that this album is just pure cannon fodder.
So let your balls fly, tell me-pray- Can YOU defend this drek.

I don't think any Tull epic is bad, but to be honest I just noticed that I don't listen A Passion Play for at least 5 years (My car and house CD players have memory for the titles of the albums and after reading this last post checked both, it's not in the memory), there may be a reason behind this.

Octavarium, I guess. Although most 20+ minute epics feature at least 50% filler material.

Funny, but for me it is THE prog-epic to measure all other epics by. And it is "Magnum Opus", by the way.

Why do 'hate' threads get so much sh*t on this site?
Hating something is just as valid an opinion as liking it, and you are allowed to express it!
If you get upset and angry because someone on the internet doesn't like something like something you like, there may well be something wrong with you.
Anyway for me its TFK - Love Supreme

Sometimes if you hold on to your 'trash' long enough you will find it useful down the road.
