How many more DT albums?

Well theyve only been going 20 years, and Yes are still going at nearly 40, so if DT keep with their current level of output (1 every 2 years) I'd say 10 plus 8 Live albums.

Well- one thing that worries me is the amount of side projects they do. Just imagine if they stayed away from the side projetcs and focused on making DT an even BETTER band! (well, unless they do another liquied tension album)

I do think age has something to do with it. With age comes change in musical tastes- family, and arthritus

Every album from Metropolis to Ocatvarium has been connected. Metropolis ended with a needle scratching a record; 6DOIT opens with it. 6DOIT ends with the same noise that ToT opens with. ToT ends on a piano note, and Octavarium opens with it, followed by some psychedelic noise. Yet, Octavarium ends with the same note, followed by the same psychedelic noise which fades out.

It could mean two things. One, that the band is over, finished, and they've ended by tying the loop in a circle. OR, Rudess is done. His first album was Metropolis, and that's where the whole cycle started. Now that it's over, it could be that his stay is over.

There's other stuff too that doesn't directly support the band's closing, but it would make sense. One of these is that Portnoy's AA series is now over, no more need for more of them, blah blah, so on and so forth.

I hope so much that they aren't done, they are one of my favorite bands. But one never knows.

 Umm...  What makes you think that Jordan would leave?  Did you expect them to continue the into-outro theme through every single album they make?  And if it signals the end of anything, could it possibly the end of their contract with Atlantic Records??  And just in case you didn't know, there are twelve steps in AA not 7.  So the AA saga is certainly NOT finished.

I see no reason to believe that the band will quit any time soon.  I think they'll take a hiatus after their 20th Anniversary tour, but I would expect a new album in 2008 probably.  The only reason they would break up would be artistic or personal differences, but they all seem to still get along just fine and happy with the way the band is run.  They can't exactly retire and live off royalties from their albums or anything, so they'll continue to make music.  Sure they have their side-projects, but I think they will remain side-projects, and I think it's healthy for the band members because anything they have to express artistically that can't be said in DT can be said through one of their many other projects.  They might slow down a bit, but I would expect Dream Theater to be around for at least another 10 years, and probably another 5 albums or so.
