Well theyve only been going 20 years, and Yes are still going at nearly 40, so if DT keep with their current level of output (1 every 2 years) I'd say 10 plus 8 Live albums.

Well- one thing that worries me is the amount of side projects they do. Just imagine if they stayed away from the side projetcs and focused on making DT an even BETTER band! (well, unless they do another liquied tension album)

I do think age has something to do with it. With age comes change in musical tastes- family, and arthritus

Well, maybe influence that comes in to DT, comes from all this side projects sometimes as well, and will give them the spirit to carry on?

Every album from Metropolis to Ocatvarium has been connected. Metropolis ended with a needle scratching a record; 6DOIT opens with it. 6DOIT ends with the same noise that ToT opens with. ToT ends on a piano note, and Octavarium opens with it, followed by some psychedelic noise. Yet, Octavarium ends with the same note, followed by the same psychedelic noise which fades out.

It could mean two things. One, that the band is over, finished, and they've ended by tying the loop in a circle. OR, Rudess is done. His first album was Metropolis, and that's where the whole cycle started. Now that it's over, it could be that his stay is over.

There's other stuff too that doesn't directly support the band's closing, but it would make sense. One of these is that Portnoy's AA series is now over, no more need for more of them, blah blah, so on and so forth.

I hope so much that they aren't done, they are one of my favorite bands. But one never knows.

I voted for 5. This can be done in about 10 years.

Hopefully, they continue with better albums than ToT and Octavarium.

 Umm...  What makes you think that Jordan would leave?  Did you expect them to continue the into-outro theme through every single album they make?  And if it signals the end of anything, could it possibly the end of their contract with Atlantic Records??  And just in case you didn't know, there are twelve steps in AA not 7.  So the AA saga is certainly NOT finished.

I see no reason to believe that the band will quit any time soon.  I think they'll take a hiatus after their 20th Anniversary tour, but I would expect a new album in 2008 probably.  The only reason they would break up would be artistic or personal differences, but they all seem to still get along just fine and happy with the way the band is run.  They can't exactly retire and live off royalties from their albums or anything, so they'll continue to make music.  Sure they have their side-projects, but I think they will remain side-projects, and I think it's healthy for the band members because anything they have to express artistically that can't be said in DT can be said through one of their many other projects.  They might slow down a bit, but I would expect Dream Theater to be around for at least another 10 years, and probably another 5 albums or so.

Look I hate to admit it but we are all getting older , I think Dream Theater need to mellow out a little if they are to keep on going a bit the same way Marillion have.  If Dream Theater don`t mellow they will burn up I feel as their typical approach to prog metal is getting old and a little bit stale.

I am very happy with the end result of their last CD and I think the approach they are taking is right on target , the next CD is going to be fantastic and I cant wait ! 

So in response the the Question how many more albums ? that depends in what direction DT takes , if they want to  act as their age suggests theres plenty more go in em, if they want to charade around as  teenagers with the look at us aren't we talented I think many people are getting tired of that its not as much fun anymore.

Dream Theater need to concentrate on well written songs, vocals and stuff of substance  forget the flash for now.

The only connection with Jordan is that the 4 connected albums were the four Jordan was in the band for.

It's not that I expected them to continue the trend of intro-outro. I just think this was an odd way to end it, tying the loop back around again in a circle. It needs to represent something, I think.

I just have a bad feeling about them calling this the Grand Finale concert they're doing at Radio City.

Yeah, I heard recently about how they really don't seem to enjoy each other too much. Can anyone clarify as to why they feel this way and who specifically doesn't like who?

Not saying its going to happen, but seeing how much Myung contributes to DT. I'd say it it would matter a lot, but not as much as Labrie, MP, JP and JR leaving.

I personally like Stormbringer more than Burn. Perfect Strangers, House Of Blue Light, and their last too, Bananas and Rapture Of The Deep are also great albums - though Slaves and Masters/Battle Rages On were very weak

Look up your local AA chapter and ask them how many steps there are in the program.

The theme of the title track of Octavarium is that life moves in circles and the line "the story ends where it begins."  Hence, the ending of the album is the same as the beginning of the album.

I would expect Dream Theater to keep going for another 10 years or so. The whole intro-outro thing ending w/ Octavarium w/ a loop doesnt really mean anything. It could enforce the theme of Octavarium of being FULL CIRCLE... maybe they feel like their lives are coming full circle and they will make a return to their roots - hence their interest in paying respects and honoring their roots in the song Octavarium in the section Full Circle.

Also, John Myung is a vital member to Dream Theater being one of the three original members! No offense, but if anyone would go i think it would be Jordan - it seems like the only role in DT that can change is the keyboards... (and i absolutetly love JR!)

And I understand the lyrics of Octavarium, I've heard them many many times. I understand it talks about coming full circle. My only point is, why now? What's the reason for it?

I just feel as if it has to symbolize something.
