Topic: discrimination for prog in other language Posted: February 06 2006 at 17:13 |
Now, I know that bed for progressive music was in England and sung in
English. But alot of time when I talk to progers and I recommend them
an album not sung in english and they get skeptical (is that the word)
about it.
If they only knew what they are missing
please discuss about this topic. I would like to know your opinions on this

Offcourse they are missing a lot of the point in prog when they say so. I believe that most of it comes down to the MUSIC and definitely not the lyrics.

We're only in it for the music!!!

the lyrics can also make
or brake the music too, soo is not all about the music.

wow... what self-discriminating 'progger' wouldn't recognize the beauty of the sound of Italiian or Spanish being sung. I think your progger friends need to lay off that metal crap and listen to something with a bit more....depth and craftwork to it hahahahh.
|
For me it's all about the voice and the music. Really horrible lyrics can sometimes somewhat spoil the music(like on Mr. Bungle's The Girls Of Porn - good song, disgusting lyrics)
But if you don't understand it, who cares? Just listen to the voice.

humor sucks....

I do listen to prog with foreign lyrics, but what always happens is I start to wonder what they're singing about. Especially if it's a concept album of sorts, which then becomes aggravating. I just feel like I'm missing something special and then I get depressed.

Wow! You need to be quicker with that response of yours, because now it looks like you're pointing at me and I never said anything about Spanish lyrics.

I find that when someone sings in a foreign language the voice just becomes another instrument to my ears.

In my case, actually, it is funny because for a long time, English was a foreign language for me. So I don't know how you really feel about music in english. When I listen to french music (my native language), It is really different because I understand everything without thinking about it. So, I always wondered how a native english speaker felt when listening an english song.
