I have thought long and hard about this but in my opinion Rush invented Prog Metal , sure their were other heavy bands around at the time but I think Rush were the ones to first ever be truly progressive and combined that with heavy metal. What do you think did Rush invent Prog Metal ? |

No. I 'd see the origin maybe in Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath. |

Rush didn't invent it but 2112 is the catalyst. All prog metal can be traced back to this song as the major influence.

I'd agree that they were definitely a catalyst.

Very doubtful, and I don't think so. Anyway, if a band invented prog metal, it was High Tide, and they were a little before Rush. I recommend listening to "Sea Shanties" and the self-titled 2nd album, both from 1969. In my opinion the first prog-metal albums.

King Crimson could probably claim that throne before Rush, even though Rush is probably more influential in metal

IT's sure that Dream Theater and many other bands take their roots in Rush music...
But I don't Think that was the creator of prog metal beacause their sound are a litle bit too pop for that. |

RUSH with his "heavy prog rock" started or popularized the mix of heavy metal/hard rock with prog rock! I vote "yes"
