I voted for "Phase IV" and "Silent Running" though, because they are two forgotten little gems. although at first glance these two movies seem to have very little in common (one deals with intelligent ants, the other with a team of astronauts caring for the last forests somewhere in space), there is a common theme: how men react in a claustrophobic situation

Very good choices Jean,Twelve Monkeys,A Clockwork Orange and Brazil are exceptionally good sci-fi films.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder's "Welt am Draht" ("World on the Wire") is based on the same theme as "Matrix", but was shot about 30 years earlier (1973) and is a thousand times better

there is a very complicated legal situation about that movie at the moment, and WDR, the tv-channel it originally was produced for, is not even allowed to rerun it again at the moment. one can only hope

You did. I made a revised poll 'cause I screwed up on this one by putting 2001 in the poll question. DUHH!

THE MATRIX.
One likes to believe
In the freedom of music
But glittering prizes
And endless Compromises
Shatter the illusion
Of integrity

I like the old 50's sci-fi. I'm going for "Forbidden Planet" with Walter Pidgeon, Leslie Neilson and which (says here) is a remake of Shakespeare's The Tempest - as I've neither seen or read the play, I cant vouch for that. Can't remember the name of the girl in the film but I know she had a very short skirt and that had a big effect on a 12 year old boy I can tell you........

But there's loads of good films here. I really enjoyed the latest "War of the Worlds" with Tom Cruise. But you just know Star Wars is going to win....

1 Bladerunner - the Director's cut

Although "the director's cut" versions aren't always that much different or better than the orignal, in the case of Bladerunner that certainly isn't true. No more voice-overs. Ridley Scott also dropped the endpart.

This is and will always be a very special scifi-movie with a great score from Vangelis. The movie and score are inseparable.

A must see!

In this poll I vote for Blade Runner. But if TV series were included I'd have voted for Stargate SG1
