I saw this thing on tv where you can take vinyl and put it on to your computer but i've never seen or heard about one since. Im too young to own any vinyls but my friends dad has some awsome vinyls

You don't need to buy anything special, just one lead to connect the output of the preamp to the input of the soundcard. To get rid of (snaps) crackles and pops you need software, but I think there's free stuff to do it. There're topics on these forums around, anyway.

In the past I always bought. But then sometimes I was very disappointed (anyone for a vinyl of "And then there were Three"?) Nowadays I first download, and if I like it I buy it (mainly by ordering it through the internet). If I don't like it, I don't pay. That's as simple as it is.

Buy most, rip some from friends, download some (to try, if I like, I buy).

Yep, same here. I download samples from bands I don't know, and if I like what I hear, I will go buy the album. |
I have the same opinion. I only use samples to avoid big mistakes. I buy what I am interested in.

I usually download 3-4 tracks from an album before I buy it.

All of the above. I have to travel about 20 kms from my hometown to reach Manila, just for me to get a record. I usually travel by Light Rail Transit. I have to endure almost an hour of travel to reach the place. Not to mention the untidiness of the record shop ( its an underground shop not too many people in Manila know ). All that for a prog record!

Buy them. And there's allways some convention now and then where you can get some old music (that not so many is interested in, read prog!) for a fistfull of dollars. .

Oh, I should mention that if I have something on vinyl or tape, I don't see anything wrong with downloading a "back up" copy.
