your favourite bands when you were achild

Lets see how our musical tastes changed from when we were very young to the present.

When I was young, I mostly like Argentinian pop/rock, and Dire Straits!

My favourites:

_Dire Straits (Walk of Life was my favourite song of all times)

_Patricio Rey y Sus Redonditos de Ricota (Classic rock sounding)

_La Renga (Popular hard rock band with a lot of energy)

_Sumo (another good rock band from my country)

Now, I love progressive rock and classic rock. However, I could put Dire Straits easily in my top 20 bands... maybe even in my top 10. It is, in my opinion, easily the best band from the 80s.

10-13 The Sweet, Slade, Mud, Gary Glitter, Alice Cooper, Queen

13-16 Status Quo, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Santana,

16-106 Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Supertramp and then gradyally all the other interesting progrock like Marillion, IQ, Camel, BJH, PFM, Italian, early British, USA, Japanese, South-American ... but also Tangerine Dream, Rory Gallagher, flamenco, Sixties, The Doors ...

Well, Im 18 so it hasn´t been that much time since my child days hehehe

Well, I was much into the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink 182, Offspring and Green Day...glad thouse days are over!

These were my major bands growing up.  I guess you could say I liked a mixture of metal and prog.  I rarely listen to Maiden or Priest anymore, but still thouroughly enjoy the others.

I had older brothers and my tastes were greatly influenced by the oldest one of them.

It started with Deep Purple, and then I really started liking the Beatles(still do), Moody Blues, Steely Dan, Supertramp, Neil Young and especially Pink Floyd.

When my brother had left the house I explored some more and found Alan Parsons Project, Cheap Trick, Blue Oyster Cult and I REALLY started to delve in to the Pink Floyd archives. By the time I was 18 I had every Floyd lp as well as some bootlegs.

When I left high school I started to search deep for good new music. My 1st discoveries were The Violent Femmes, Marillion, Red Hot Chili Peppers and eventually moved towards the alternative sounds with Sonic Youth, Pixies, The Butthole Surfers and Janes Addiction

Eventually I became bored with over hyped and talentless acts and went retro seeking unheard music.  My 1st discoveries were old Genesis(everyone has heard the 80's crap), King Crimson, Hawkwind, Tangerine Dream, Gentle Giant and ELP. Much to my shock and delight I discovered that much I had listened to was actually catagorized as Progressive Rock(and here I thought I had diverse tastes.), and that was only about 1 year prior to discovering ProgArchives.
