POWER SPENT PASSION BESPOILS OUR SOUL RECIEVER!

I love that line. In fact, I'm going to make it my new sig.

Some more-let's see if you can figure them out:

He'll speak my words and slice my mind...

And there you are/saying we have the moon, so now the stars/when all you see/is near diasaster gazing down on you and me...

No-one speaks and no-one tries/And no-one flies around the sun...

From life alone to life as one,
Think not now your journey's done
For though your ship be sturdy, no
Mercy has the sea,
Will you survive on the ocean of being?
Come ancient children hear what I say
This is my parting council for you on your way...

Fishes can't fly/Fishes can't fly/Fishes can't and neither can I/Neither can I...

Knights of the green shield stamp and shout!

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
(These may be the greatest lyrics ever written)

And of course:

Zip-didda-zap-a-zip-zip-da-rap, this what I call the Zip Zap Rap!

Some obscure favourites:

"I can't write songs about girls anymore

I have to write songs about women

No more boy meets girl/ boy loses girl

More like man tries to understand what the hell went wrong"

"I'm An Adult Now" The Pursuit Of Happiness

"Some guys would try to pick up girls and been called an asshole

This did not happen to Pablo Picasso

Why he was only 5 foot 3, girls could not resist his stare

... Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole

"The girls would turn the colour of an avacado

When he'd walk drive down the street in his El Dorado

He was only 5 foot 3, girls could not resist his stare

... Pablo Piccasso was never called an asshole

Unlike you."

"Pablo Piccasso" by The Burning Sensations

I have to admit, I fall apart everytime I hear "The United States of Whatever" The singer's name eludes me at this time.

"they locked up a man who wanted to rule the world.
the fools
they locked up the wrong man."
- Leonard Cohen

"Now the sound of music
Comes in silver pills
Engineered to suit you
Building cheaper thrills"

Porcupine Tree - "The Sound of Muzak"

Maybe not a lyrical masterpiece, but as a high school student frustrated to
the point of exhaustion by today's music, it struck home pretty effectively.

Yes yes yes, there it was. Youth must go, ah yes. But youth is only being in a way like it might be an animal. O my brothers...

Some of you already mentioned the first two of these, but they have impressed me greatly too:

"I am the producer of your nightmare
and the performance has just begun"
(by Fish, Marillion: Incubus)

"Quick to judge, quick to anger, slow to understand
ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand"
(by Neil Peart, Rush: Witch Hunt)

"The trees are all kept equal
by hatchet, axe and saw"
(Peart, The Trees)

And maybe the most effective and memorable lines for me:
"Why don't you touch me?
Touch me, touch me, touch me now, now, now, now, NOW!..."
(the finale of Musical Box as everyone knows)
The effect is multiplied by Gabriel shouting it with the old man's mask on. That's art, man!
"Make tea, not love"

Its not so much a line but most of the time a set of lyrics like below

My frail, virgin mind
Watched the crimson sunrise:  from Change of Seasons

and

Sailing on the seven seize the day tripper Diem's ready
Jack the Ripper Owen Wilson Phillips and my Supper's ready
Lucy in the Sky with diamond Dave's not here I come to save the Day for
Nightmare Cinema show me the way to get back home
Again
Flying Off the Hand With careful with
That axe Eugene Gene the dance machine messiah
Light my Fire gabba, gabba
Hey hey my my Generations home again

from Octavarium

oh narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes
oh narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die

from Narcissus

Into the fires of forever we will fly through the heavens
With the power of the universe we stand strong together
Through the force of power, it will soon reach the hour
For victory we ride, Fury of the Storm!

from Fury of the Storm

Proud and so glorious standing before of us
Our swords will shine bright in the sky
When united we come to the land of the sun
With the heart of a dragon we ride

from Heart of a Dragon

"Are you all seaty two-square comflybold on your botties?

Then I'll begin."

(Stanley Unwin narrating the opening lines of "Ogden's Nut Gone" by The Small Faces.)

"He found a tiger's head one day, nailed to a piece of wood. The tiger looked quite miserable - but I suppose 'e should. Just then from aht the window, a voice began to wail; It said "Oi! Where's me tiger's 'ead?"

"Four foot from 'is tail!!!".

(Lonnie Donnegan - "My Old Man's a Dustman")

"My kids say; "He said to me, you know, I'm like - and he's like - and she's like..."; It's all he's all, she's all... I can't get behind that kinda, like... English!"

(William Shatner - "I Can't Get Behind That", from the album "Has Been".

"Halt! Who goes there?"

....

....

....

"Deaaaaaaaathhhhhh....."

...

"Approach...

Friend."

(From one of the greatest (Prog) albums of all time ).

only few of hundreds:

Camel
Saw you riding on a moon cloud,
Saw you walking on a whirlpool,
From the corner of my eye,
I saw you.

Supertramp
Teach me to fly, so I shall drag my feet in the sand
Give me the sky, I will would take the whole world in my hand

and
Can we be free, in a world where to love is to own?
Well when will we see, that a man must face life all alone

VdGG
My form is mystic, but my heart is pure,
you'd better believe what I say:
I am the Necromancer.

Saw you sitting on a sunbeam
in the middle of my daydream

Stinkfoot Frank Zappa

Now scientists call this disease bromidrosis
(that’s right!)
And well they should
Even napoleon knows that
But us regular folks
Who might wear a tennis shoe
Or an occasional python boot
Know this exquisite little inconvenience by the name of:
Stink foot
Saw you sitting on a sunbeam
in the middle of my daydream

So! Come on ye childhood heroes
Won't you rise up from the pages
Of your comic books your supercrooks
And show us all the way.
Well! Make your will and testament
Would you? Join the local goverment.
Will have Superman for president
Let Robin save the day.

So! Where the hell was Biggles when you needed him last Saturday?
And where were all the sportsman who always pulled you through?
They're all resting down in Cornwall wrrriting up their memoirs
For a paper-back edition of the Boy Scout Manual.
