If I had to vote with a prog-taste I would say "Thick as a Brick" but
in a period of time (the end of seventies) in which everything seemed
to be lost (I mean great music) An album like Songs from the wood
showed how a ten years career band nearly considered overcamen was able
to produce a brilliant, fresh, full of ideas, joyful music...(despite of
punk )

I can't choose between Aqualung, Thick as a Brick and Minstrel in the Gallery.
All albums I've heard (11+) are 4 stars or over so it's really hard to choose.

A comment for Zargus: buy Minstrel in the Gallery first. A Passion Play is a big disappointment in an amazing list of great consecutive albums, Stand Up - Stormwatch. Then came another failure, A, but the worst album Tull has ever done is Under Wraps. All the other ones are marvellous, in my opinion. This Was and Catfish Rising are also weaker than other albums, but still worth giving a try. In fact, even A and A Passion Play have their moments, but I would recommend not to start from either of those or you will get a wrong impression of Tull.

I had to go with A Passion Play. It was my first Tull album. I do have
many of the others and love most of them, but A Passion Play will alway
hold the top spot for me.

Living in the past, as a complete showcase of tull at its beginnings (and because it was my first encounter with my beloved band also). Specially love the live side. Also, i'm very attratted to bursting out, which shows the growth of the band at the end of the 70's.

Jethro Tull certainly have some
impressive albums, but “Thick
as a Brick” tops them all and
it is one of the finest albums in
Progressive Rock history.
“Minstrel in the Gallery” would
be my second preference, also
very good.

Top five:
Minstrel in the Gallery
Aqualung
Songs From the Wood
Heavy Horses
Thick as a Brick
Really they do not have a bad album IMO. Their bottom three would be Rock Island, Catfish Rising and Roots to Branches.

I really like Thick as a brick but at time I got the taste of A passion
play and the more I hear it the more I love it. IMO their best, most
complex, most ambitious work and the hardest to apreciate. Truly a
masterpiece in every sense of the word

I think the complete heavy horses session of 15 songs and the complete aqualung session of 20 songs are probably even better than thick as a brick

My favorite Tull album is Benefit. I don't think I could call it their best, but it is my favorite.

Hard to say.
I like every music decade of Tull.Even the eletronic stuff.
But the most outstanding albums are Roots to Branches, Thick as a Brick, Chateu Disaster Tapes and the three Folk Rock Albums.
At least at the moment
I`ve forgotten Thick as Brick
