Stand Up.

Not as 'integrated' progressive as some of the later albums (the different influences are more separated from each other, and it's more songbased than some of the early seventies stuff) but for me it's JT's finest hour.

Probably Horses, Wood, then a log jam.  Bursting Out should have made the list.  Probably my favorite live album ever.  Also, Benefit is a very underrated album by Tull fans in general.  List is missing some near classics like Crest of Knave, A, and Broadsword.

Hi,

I wonder why no Broadsword, no Dot Com, no Under Wraps, no Rock Island?...

At least one of them (preferably Broadsword) should be here instead of A little light music, which is a live album as we all know.

I voted for Songs From The Wood of course!

Christmas Album.
I really, really love that one. perfect sound, perfect playing, perfect songs. And, it's got a wonderful atmosphere!

Other than that, I like almost all albums up to 79, plus Dot Com and A Little Light Music. I don't like Minstrel in the Gallery or A Passion Play, though...
I voted for heavy Horses, since that was my fave before Chrismas Album came out.

If I had to vote with a prog-taste I would say "Thick as a Brick" but in a period of time (the end of seventies) in which everything seemed to be lost (I mean great music) An album like Songs from the wood showed how a ten years career band nearly considered overcamen was able to produce a brilliant, fresh, full of ideas, joyful music...(despite of punk)

I can't choose between Aqualung, Thick as a Brick and Minstrel in the Gallery.

All albums I've heard (11+) are 4 stars or over so it's really hard to choose.

A comment for Zargus: buy Minstrel in the Gallery first. A Passion Play is a big disappointment in an amazing list of great consecutive albums, Stand Up - Stormwatch. Then came another failure, A, but the worst album Tull has ever done is Under Wraps. All the other ones are marvellous, in my opinion. This Was and Catfish Rising are also weaker than other albums, but still worth giving a try. In fact, even A and A Passion Play have their moments, but I would recommend not to start from either of those or you will get a wrong impression of Tull.

Living in the past, as a complete showcase of tull at its beginnings (and because it was my first encounter with my beloved band also). Specially love the live side. Also, i'm very attratted to bursting out, which shows the growth of the band at the end of the 70's.

    Jethro Tull certainly have some

    impressive albums, but “Thick

as a Brick” tops them all and

it is one of the finest albums in

    Progressive Rock history.

    “Minstrel in the Gallery” would

    be my second preference, also

    very good.

This list seriously needs Crest of a Knave. It's not my favorite but it's pretty popular amongst fans. Plus Tull won the "Best Metal Performer" Grammy for it in 1988. They beat out Metallica.

I reckon you can pick 10 songs from the 20 warchild songs, 10 songs from the 16 horses songs, 10 songs from the 26 broadsword songs, 10 songs from the 20 Aqualung songs, 10 songs from the 15 Dotcom songs and 10 songs from the 15 Stormwatch songs that all come pretty close to TAAB . That is why Tull are so damn cool ;)

I love songs from the Wood, which is probably also my fave prog album.  I have bought some of the remasters over the last year and had a chance to listen to several Tull albums I had never heard before, esp the early stuff. There ain't one I don't like. I even love the often trashed War Child and Too Young to Rock and Roll.

    Posted By: Guests
    Date Posted: March 17 2006 at 17:06
the original 10 songs from warchild made a slightly disappointing album, but the 7 bonus tracks easily make up for that disappointment ;)

    Posted By: ken4musiq
    Date Posted: March 18 2006 at 00:23

Actually, I don't have the remaster of War Child so I like it as is. (maybe i should get it.)  It has a couple of classic radio Tull songs on it, Bungle in the Jungle, Skating away, and The Third Hoorah. Over all it is a very lyrical album from the get go.

I was referring to the fact that a lot of people call the three middle albums: War Child, Minstrel, Too Old, 'transitional;' but they have many a good song and are quite respectable musically.
