I actually can't believe I jst voted for Fripp, cuz I'm a really big Gilmour fan, he got me involved into music and Shine on, Time and all Animals guitars are amazing!!! I also love King Crimson, but way less than Pink Floyd. I had to consider the work of those two and realized that Gilmour without Waters wasn't even close to Fripp when he's alone. When I compare Division Bell to The Power to believe, which are two albums that aren't one man show but close to this, I see that Fripp goes further with his guitar. But in their entire career, I think that they're both the greatest prog guitarists, with Squire, and that Gilmour was impressive in a lot of albums. Long life to Pink Floyd

David Gilmour can make you cry by playing just one note.

Exactly. I love both guitarists, but I have to go with Gilmour on this one. Fripps playing is almost anti-emotional sometimes, like a mathematical approach to playing. I love the way Gilmour can incorporate his playing into space rock/prog and retain his blues roots while never sacrificing feeling.

Fripp is a true legend and innovator. His style might not be the warmest, but he's definitely in a league of his own. Gilmour is good, but more of an ordinary guitarist. I don't find that his style makes him stand out like with Fripp. You can hear Fripp and instantly identify him.

For technicality it is by FAR David Gilmour, he's the worlds biggest GENIUS when it comes to effects, and the way he can manipulate a chord until it is almost unrecognisable!!!!! the man is a genius on all levels! Not to mention you can really FEEL his playing, there is more emotion, more heart, more times in Floyd's music when you know Gilmour is about to do something special, something that always fills the listener with emotion, this happens less in crimsons music. (love the Fripp man though). Gilmour is more than just a guitarist.

I enjoy Gilmour to a point. After WYWH, it all sounds samey to me. However, Fripp has always sounded fresh to my ears. I'm going with Fripp.

David for me, but I would say he is actually more "mathematical" and even robotic in his playing since he never really plays a "random" note. Ever listened to him live? His solo's are almost exactly the same, which can be boring for me sometimes. Fripp is the "King" of improvision and NEVER plays any solo the same. So when it comes to technicality Fripp is the deffinite winner. But when it comes to feeling and emotion, both have just as much, Gilmour is the best at playing with a sad feeling while Fripp is the best at playing with an angry feeling.
I just happen to be the person that preferes sadder solo's more than angry ones, but just barely though.
Gimour is more preferable by, but only by a hair.

Dave Gilmour along with Steve Hackett the best, Fripp is overrated IMO.

Gilmour is not repeatative he just plays with a familiar style, it makes the music seem like and old friend or something. Where as Fripps style is like meeting someone new everytime you hear a new song. Also Gilmours solos are more iconic, it's hard to recall a Fripp solo note for note, where as Gilmours become etched in your brain

You pretty much said it all right there. It doesn't really matter if
Gilmour has played every genre ever or not, he feels the music so much
more than so many other guitarists. Music isn't about mathematics or
experimenting for the sake of experimenting, it's for feeling
something, and for expressing yourself. Dave does a way better job at
that, if you ask me.

I don't think Dave does a "way" better job of expressing himself on the guitar, Fripp expresses his anger and saddness very well. Listen to almost any Fripp solo and you can tell he has an angry attitude, he expresses himself very well, it just's a matter of tastes, neither is all that much better than the other, both are preety even to eachother if you ask me.

Being somewhat blinkered and old fashioned I prefer 'early' King Crimson, I could never quite get on with the music Fripp produced after 'Red' was released. Then he was fresh, brash and also very thoughtful. You had no idea exactly what he was going to do next which only heightened the experience. I know his output has been prolific since those halcyon days but I still find my self going back to the likes of 'Starless', 'Larks Tongues' etc. But that's only my own view. Gilmore on the other hand has never ceased to amaze, stun or hurt me. Even now his music seems to find a level within me that nobody else seems quite able to reach. High or low, left or right it makes no difference. Each a genius in his own right but Fripp assaults the senses, Gilmore overwhelms them.
