The original Warchild album was a bit disappointing, but had the occasional cool track, but I think the album of outtakes(Warchild 2) is alot stronger, heavier, and more prog. More hammond organ and better vocals in the outtakes I think. I think the outtake album is similar to Aqualung with it's medievil heavy rock and acoustics. I actually prefer Warchild 2 over the original Aqualung album. That is how good the bouns stuff is . The bungle remix is alot better and it's actually quite listenable

WARCHILD 1
Warchild
Queen and country
Ladies
Back door angels
Sealion
Skating away
Bungle in the jungle
Only Solitaire
The third hoorah
Two fingers

WARCHILD 2
Warchild waltz
Quartet
Paradise steakhouse
Sealion 2
Rainbow blues
Glory row
Saturation
March the mad scientist
Bungle in the jungle(remix)

you can get a good glimpse of these songs at my site below

I've always loved War Child album and its peculiar strong orchestral arrengements!

My favourite tracks: Sealion, Two Fingers

P.S. agree with you that the outtakes are stunning! (Paradise Steakhouse and Rainbow Blues in particular!)

Yeah, Qartet and Warchild Waltz are very  prog...I think Jethro Tull then would have had to release  a double album! The same goes for the 1982 year.

i think sealion 2 is better than sealion 1 because it is more proggy and you can tell ian is being silly. But in sealion 1, Ian seems serious but the lyrics are cheesy . Have u heard the bungle remix? Ians voice is alot meaner. I can't listen to the other bungle lol

Agree again.

What about those "never released" tracks they only used to play live?

as for example: Tomorrow Was Today, Hard-Hearted English General, Sailor...? I have a dream: JT performing those tracks in a new live album (or another studio one!)

I haven't listened to that "bungle-remix": did it was released in a box set?

tomorrow and hard were from aqualung year i think. sailor and untitled instrumental were from a passion play chateau disaster tapes. Untitled instrumental is great. There are 2 songs from Warchild called Beaches part 1 and Beaches part 1 which are still unreleased. This thread is an example why i think Tull were half as popular as they should be and if albums like this, Aqaulung, Broadsword were released as doubles, I think people would be bigger tull fans. I bet u didnt know about the beaches and untitles instrumemntal songs

Put in another vote for warchild 2. I'm a big fan of those songs. That is like a long lost classic album. I wasn't fond of Warchild back in the 70s, but the remaster has proven the band had not dropped off the pace at all.

Pity Ian and the boys didn't decide on a very different set list when the album came out in 1974. It could have been a fantastic album and a similar album to A passion play, but strangely they chose the more commercial pieces from a large group containing more powerful pieces of music.

But I have regained alot more respect and enjoyment from the band in recent times

I think Warchild is a very underrated album. I love "Queen and country","Ladies" or "Skating away...".Totally agree with you,Warchild 2 is a fantastic collection, especially "Rainbow blues" or "Warchild Waltz". They would have had a double album.

Where can I find the other copy of Bungle in the jungle? I just listened to saturation. It remind me of deep purple at their best. Paradise steakhouse is another enjoyable number which reminds me of Black Sabbath. All of them are extremely enjoyable.

Maybe because some (As I do) rather have the original album in the way it was ment to be listen than in new versions that are only an excuse to sell albums when the bands are not able to create new original quality material.

I never cared for bonus tracks or edit 1 and edit 2, and it's also important to notice that not many people are willing to spend all their money in re-issues when there are thousand of albums we don't own and deserve to belistened.

Iván

Hello Ivān,

the fact is that when Tull, Martin and Ian himselves are continuing to release interesting works (JT Christmas album, Stage Left, Rupi's Dance, for example) the recent remasters also are full of good (bonus) tracks which often are true gems. That's undenaiable, Ivān

Personally, I've re-bought all the Tull albums untill Broadsword, TaaB, APP and Aqalung apart.

I bought years ago the 20th anniversary cd and only there I discovered that Tull released all those powerful "hidden" tracks, so I started the research!

hey Ivan, why don't you want to hear 4 unknown classic albums worth of great tull songs from the 60s and 70s? You afraid you will see they are better than Genesis?

I always thought Warchild is a great album, at first look it may seem different from the previous one, but I usually couple it with A Passion Play, despite the short track-format.

For example in both albums Ian plays saxophones...

P.S. we all should remember that it was originally thought to be a movie soundtrack as the same manner Too Old...being projected to be a musical show

2nd P.S. speaking abot Too Old..., Strip Cartoon is an amazing joyful short bonus track, while A Small Cigar features a great collaboration between Ian Anderson and David (now Dee) Palmer.

3rd P.S. ...a small cigar...maybe Bill Clinton would have something to say about!

yeah, I love strip cartoon. Probably my fave song from the Too old session. I listened to the Too old samples on my site and it is actually a better album than I thought. It has some prog moments also.

A transitional album with its peculiar fascinating feel! Salamander is another wonderful fully-acoustic-guitar played. Pied Piper is very original and Quizz Kid is exciting!
