Absolutely disagree with this comment. Two things Fripp hasn't got is an
'ear' for rythm or melody!
Howe wins! [/QUOTE]
You could disagree with not liking Fripp's rythm or melody (I didn't like it at
first either) but you can't say that he plays out of tune. Believe me, Fripp
knows what he's doing when it comes to the guitar. I've read a lot of Fripp's
theory of how he plays and from his responses, ear training is what he
values very highly. He wouldn't play out of tune.

I guess I gotta go with Fripp, solely for the guitar solo in Cat Food.

Well, it is IMPOSSIBLE to pick one over the other.
Fripp's guitar playing is all over the place, he doesn't give a crap about rythm or melody.....but there is something very compelling about his noisy guitar work.
Howe is very precise, and melodic. He plays lines that are very impressive the moment you hear them. Fripp's guitar work takes longer to appreciate.
Both go for completely different things. However, they are both equally talented. If you don't think Fripp is up there with Howe, then listen to Fracture, or Fracktured, and he'll show you howe it's done.

Howe is easier to get into, but once you understand Fripp's solos (21st Century Schizoid Man's guitar solo sounds like a lot of drivel at first) it is just clear that he is gifted beyond the average player. He is far more expiremental, and I might even go as far to say he's better than Hendrix.
Also, Fripp plays a lot heavier than Howe, Howe plays soft, although that also is related to the band.

Both Are Extremely Gifted Guitarists. But I Think Steve Howe Has A Wider Range, And He Can Easily Be As Aggressive As Fripp, Have You Heard Relayer!! But Also His Acoustic Showcases Are Very Exciting, The Clap For Example.

My vote goes to Robert Fripp.
He does some very impressive accoustic stuff too. Especially Cirkus.

Both guitarists are very exceptional, but my vote goes to Mr. Fripp because his overall style is unlike any other guitar player I have heard.

Yeah, most guitarists play in tune and to some degree of structure

You haven't heard anything by King Crimson, have you?
Take Book Of Saturdays for example. Both the guitars are supreme. And
although the structure isn't as clear as on others, it is there.

Yes, I am referring to his post 74' output! Fripp was alright when he had a songwriter in the band, ie. Macdonald, Lake, Giles, Wetton. These knew about the craftsmanship in songwriting. When Fripp dosn't have a songwriter his playing is erratic, tuneless and amateurish!

Fripp wrote all of Lizard, most of Islands and co-wrote all of the
following KC albums, so I don't understand what you mean...
I voted for Fripp, btw! Howe is more eclectic but Fripp is an
innovator.

And you wonder why 'Lizard' is regarded the worst 70's KC album.

Easy for me, Howe.
I believe Fripp is highly overrated, being a weird person and anti social doesn't necesarilly makes him a genious, some King Crimson albums like Thrakk or Bboom sound to me as pure cacophony and sonoric masturbation.
I don't deny he can be a genius, I don't think so he's very good but overrated. But who am I to judge him? This is only my 100% honest opinion.

this is not everyone's opinion, certainly not mine
anyway, can you make an example of his amateurish playing?

Sorry Paul, it would mean me having to listen to some Fripp guitar to jog my memory and that would be too painful right now!
