Medi-ocre musicianship- messy at times- repetitive lyrics- annoying vocals

Im sure there are worse but I cant stand CTTE

Where is the musicianship mediocre and messy? It's the pure excellence...if it's not your taste ok, but that doesn't mean at all it's "medi-ocre" or "messy at times", that's an stupid argument. Simply say "I can't stand it", that would be enough. Otherwise you'll deserve such reactions.

ok- saying the song is pure excellence is the same damn thing- explain why!

Actually Drew I thought that the song was mainly filler with absolutely no point, would have made a great 10 minute song though

Not the worst, but Meshuggah's "Elastic" from their "Chaosphere" album is 15 minutes long and features 10 minutes with pure noise. The first 5 minutes of the song is very good though

for me it was side 2 of  Yes' TFTO

It sounds like some left over thin ideas stretched out to contrive a side of music going absolutely nowhere until we get some relief on the 3rd side IMHO.

How wonderful to be so profound

Wether the song is filler or not is not the point. A good song is one that makes you feel good, and with so many people including myself, I have felt emotions that few songs can make me feel, much less for 18 mins entirely. This song sometimes makes me want to cry for the absolute beauty and brilliance it has, I could care less if it means anything or not. Even if the song doesn't make me cry I am still in total bliss while listening because there is so much detail in it I can't help but feel euphoria from this song.

I'm not saying why you are wrong about it, I'm saying why I  like it, if you don't that is your fault and I'm not going to blame you or say that your wrong.

All of the "Overrated" threads are a disaster because you cannot tell someone their wrong if they don't feel what you feel so don't think my point of view is trying to tell you that you are wrong,

I know what you mean when everyone else loves a song, album or band and you don't. Genesis and the album Red are not as good to me as they are for many on this site.

Epic eh? Hmmm....epic, epic, epic....it depends what one would CALL an epic!

Meh...I'm not that fussed. In every epic there's always something good happening. Probably it's a mix between Aphrodite's Child 'All the seats were occupied' and some random one byt Ozric Tentacles called 'Feng Shui' or sommat...I dunno. but even THESE have their moments.

I think Grendel is GREAT!! A clone of Suppers Ready? There's a few structural similarities but the subject matter and atmosphere are completely different.

My worst epic is A Plague of LIghthouse Keepers. If this is VDGG's epic it doesn't say a lot for the rest of their output.

just thought of another one – i find "mind drive" by
YES (on "keys to ascension II") totally disjointed and
hideously overrated. and downright boring! they were
obviously doing a "length for length's sake here" and
in result sounded like their own tribute band.
probably not a bad epic in itself, however by YES'
standard a very poor effort.

Greetings from Spain!

Just to keep our loved Inquisition away from you all, I'll attract their attention:

"A plague ... " by VDGG, although I admit they can have done even worse, although I couldn't listem to them awake...

If an Epic is a long, complex, symphony organized (with movements) song, the worst for me is "Karn Evil Nine" from ELP. Boring after 5 minutes, unnecessarily long, pretending to be something and being close to nothing at all. If there was to be only one good reason for the punks to have defecated on progressive music, that song would be it.

Hmmm....I wouldn't say 'Headlong' by IQ was necessarily bad- I love the beginning and end of it in fact, but it has one of the worst keyboard solos I've encountered- it sounds as if Martin Orford had really stumbled what he'd initially written and tried to cover up this fact, playing lots of notes that don't gel or cohere into a whole at all. Other than that, it's a solid song though.

Well its a matter of opinion isnt it. As i said- it DOES have its moments. btw- its not like I don't hold YOUR opinion in high regerd Greenback! You were the first person to reccommend Marillion for me and, surprisingly, you wre absolutely right!

It's a hard question, because most bands put especial dedication and their best effort in their epics, mostly because epics are usually the base of an album, so it'sreally hard to fuind one so bad to call it the worst.

So I'll take the word worst as my least favorite even when it still has some good things:

Iron Butterfly's In a Gadda da Vida: Again, it's not bad, as a matter of facts starts promissing, even the somehow mysterious lirycs are interesting, but soon you find they are going in circles, simple variations and endless guitar solos over the same chord with the exact same bass and drums line.

As much as I like organ, this track is an excess, if lasted 50% would have been a masterpiece, tiresome and boring at some point at less you're smoking funny stuff or as Homer Simpson said "If you're having a good time in the back seat of your car" (Even when if you're young enough to have sex in your car, 20 minutes is normally too much time)

Iván

The most overrated 'Epic' is by Faith No More. Simply because I don't know of another song by that name.
