In UK, either form stores or on-line, prog CD's by the older bands do seem inexpensive. Of recent purchases, don't think I paid more than £8 each for King Crimson - Power to Believe, Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte (the new re-master) and Chris Squire - Fish Out of Water.

However for albums by The Mars Volta and Tool I had to pay full price.

MVC on London Bridge had all the Steve Hackett remasters for £7.99 - that is a bargain.

I recently bought Opeth - Ghost Reveries for £8.99 in Virgin Megastore - I thought that was good for a recent album, but still expensive!  I forget how much it was in H.M.V., they're normally cheaper and have better stock.

A brand new album for under £10 in a popular music shop?  It does happen.

Yet the VdGG re-masters were £13.99 each I believe.  Luckily I got 3 for £30 from spincds and saved myself some money.

Finally, I was lucky and managed to get Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame for £1 in Virgin Megastore, because I had accumulated 10 stamps, hence I could get £10 off my next purchase.  Now that is the bargain CD of the year!

On Amazon most of the classic prog bands seem to be around $7-8.

The problem is to found prog releases. Here, in Spain, prog is very cheap. I bought all the albums by Marillion (Fish era) by paying only 30 euros (¡¡¡)

Yea man, at least, here in Montreal, prog is expensive... except for those classic albums like Close to the Edge, the good albums off of Gentle Giant, and the well known prog albums, but when it comes to getting good albums or an album less popular from a good band, prices make me puke!

And Pink Floyd, what the hell is up with that man... the prices for their cd's are so damn high!... ( i finally have em all ) but hell, Here in Canada the average price for a prog CD Id say is about 15$, but Pink Floyd, its all over 23$... I got f**ked when I bought the wall for 50$!!!

Prog is not cheap man, Prog is luxirious music for the luxirious minds

Ebay is your friend

This is what I got in the mail today (from eBay of course):

The Kinks-Misfits (not prog, but who cares), won it for one dollar
Holger Czukay-Der Osten is Rot (vinyl), three dollars
Can-Soundtracks, three dollars

Ok, these prices didn't include shipping, but still, I think i got some great deals!!!

Like The Miracle, I often (well I used to at least) buy albums from Amazon store sellers. They are much cheaper than what Amazon sells them for and usually the seller is more responsive and ships faster and more efficiently.

In Italy too old prog CDs are relatively cheap (some 10 € each), but that's not true if you wish to buy new prog band CDs (the average price is 18€).

True, Internet provides some good sites, but then if you add international delivery fees to prices, well... a 10€ CD costs some 14 or 15€! Is that cheap?
