The last 5 weeks I bought several prog albums (KC-ITCOTCK, Camel-Mirage, Genesis-SEBTP, Yes-Yes Album, CTTE, ELP-Trilogy).
They all were in the price range of 10.45 euros to 13.45 euros. This is
almost half of the price of more popular music (LedZep,Doors, bullsh*t
like Greenday) which prices range from 20.95 to 22.95 euros.
Has anyone else noticed this big difference in cost too?

Yeah, prog seems to be generally cheaper than other stuff. And congrats on those purchases, all of them are great.

I bought WAW, ATTWT and Seconds Out (Genesis), Leftoverture (Kansas) and Canterbury (Diamond Head) for a total of £10 today
And these were all near-mint copies.
Normally I'd expect to pay £1 for an average Genesis or Yes album, and around £5 for Pink Floyd
Prog is dirt cheap - buy now before people catch on...

All the early Genesis is half as much as the later stuff. Maybe no one buys it and they want to get rid of it.

There are at least 4 second-hand vinyl shops around Reading, where I live, and loads more around London - and a great one in Oxford that sells high-value LPs at really low prices; I picked up a 1st press of "Saucerful of Secrets" in that shop for £20. Look on eBay, and try and find one for less than £150!

^ I only buy CDs ... and for that Ebay is ideal. I would be hesitant to buy vinyl on Ebay though ... you never know what you'll get (scratches etc.), and there's a higher risk that they get damaged during shipping.

There is that risk, but it's fairly easily overcome;
1. Buy only from sellers with good reputations (95%+).
2. Make sure your purchases are insured.
Enjoy your vinyl - I do
(I also sell on eBay sometimes... you can trust me... )

Thanks, but that ship has sailed ... I'll stick to CDs. BTW: I'm also currently selling albums on Ebay, to pay for my massive purchases this year.

In UK, either form stores or on-line, prog CD's by the older bands do
seem inexpensive. Of recent purchases, don't think I paid more than £8
each for King Crimson - Power to Believe, Steve Hackett - Voyage of the
Acolyte (the new re-master) and Chris Squire - Fish Out of Water.
However for albums by The Mars Volta and Tool I had to pay full price.

MVC on London Bridge had all the Steve Hackett remasters for £7.99 - that is a bargain.

I recently bought Opeth - Ghost Reveries for £8.99 in Virgin Megastore
- I thought that was good for a recent album, but still
expensive! I forget how much it was in H.M.V., they're normally
cheaper and have better stock.
A brand new album for under £10 in a popular music shop? It does happen.
Yet the VdGG re-masters were £13.99 each I believe. Luckily I got 3 for £30 from spincds and saved myself some money.
Finally, I was lucky and managed to get Mahavishnu Orchestra - The
Inner Mounting Flame for £1 in Virgin Megastore, because I had
accumulated 10 stamps, hence I could get £10 off my next
purchase. Now that is the bargain CD of the year!

Yea man, at least, here in Montreal, prog is expensive... except for those classic albums like Close to the Edge, the good albums off of Gentle Giant, and the well known prog albums, but when it comes to getting good albums or an album less popular from a good band, prices make me puke!
And Pink Floyd, what the hell is up with that man... the prices for their cd's are so damn high!... ( i finally have em all ) but hell, Here in Canada the average price for a prog CD Id say is about 15$, but Pink Floyd, its all over 23$... I got f**ked when I bought the wall for 50$!!!
Prog is not cheap man, Prog is luxirious music for the luxirious minds

Ebay is your friend
This is what I got in the mail today (from eBay of course):
The Kinks-Misfits (not prog, but who cares), won it for one dollar
Holger Czukay-Der Osten is Rot (vinyl), three dollars
Can-Soundtracks, three dollars
Ok, these prices didn't include shipping, but still, I think i got some great deals!!!
Like The Miracle, I often (well I used to at least) buy albums from
Amazon store sellers. They are much cheaper than what Amazon sells them
for and usually the seller is more responsive and ships faster and more
efficiently.

In Italy too old prog CDs are relatively cheap (some 10 € each), but that's not true if you wish to buy new prog band CDs (the average price is 18€).
True, Internet provides some good sites, but then if you add international delivery fees to prices, well... a 10€ CD costs some 14 or 15€! Is that cheap?
