The top rated albums should not be restricted by "sub-genre". Some people are actually capable of appreciating different styles and moods of music and don't need every album to sound like Dream Theater. I like one Dream Theater song (instrumental)! If 75% of the people who like "Frances the Mute" also like "The Lamb...", or "Soft Machine 3", or "801 Live", or "Maxophone", I think it is more important than pointing someone toward some arbitrary "genre"-specific sub-catagory that is meaningless.

Sometimes it works perfectly, but sometimes results are unexpected (for example, it is not obvious that URIAH HEEP fans will like RUSH). Anyway useful feature. |

It
is quite irrelevant to get always the same references per category
(Yes, Genesis for Symp.), Marillion, IQ,Arena for Neo Prog, Pink Floyd
for Space Rock etc.
It was far much better before when it was referenced to an album rather than to a genre. PLEASE DO REVERT TO THE PREVOUS INFO (8 ALBUMS IN THE SAME STYLE). I hope lots of people think that way. |

^ Yes, agreed. It's totally useless for most people here. Good for newbies, but no use for others.

Also, wouldn't it be better to show "the top rated albums by 12 top rated bands of this genre"? Now there's 4 albums by YES, 4 albums by GENESIS, 2 albums by KING CRIMSON and 2 albums by CAMEL. Could there be only a one most rated album by one band? Or could there be a be genre recommendations which admins and collabs would have voted? |

It might be a good plan to show not only top-rated albums in a category, but also a few RANDOM albums in the same category. That way visitors are introduced to obscure albums as well... or you could only show 16 random albums in the same category, where the chance of showing a particular album depends on its rating... (for example an album with 4,5 stars is being shown 3 times as much as an album with 1,5 star.

It should be limited to showing two albums per band, else it'll get clogged up with always the same bands. Most people will be looking for bands anyway (I am).

It's a pity the feature has been removed. Though it didn't work perfectly, but helped to find something new, at least for me. |

Note M@x's words "for now", I suspect he will have ideas on how to replace it with an improved version.

Another complaint for the removal
Message: Hi, people from Prog Archives.com This is the best site i've ever seen, and it is a fully surprised gift for those who likes prog, fusion, canterbury and related music. I just came here to make a complaint, or a question, if it is more convenient: One of the good things about the album's reviews were the related albums added in the end of the reviews. Why you take it off?! Another: I'm brazilian, and don't speak (write) english in a good way, and i really wanted to write some reviews, but you don't let we write in our main language. This is really bad. But... the site is almost perfect, and every time shows more surprises. Thanks, and I hope to be understand. Peace!!!!! |

I think they should be re-instated. This site is for everyone, not just Prog Connoisseurs. The suggestions are a key part of spreading the word. |

Perhaps in a limited form then so as not to occupy too much space? Also, could there perhaps be a bit more of a randomness to them, so that they don't just show the same albums all the time.
