Their frontman James Hatfield founded a prog band "Hatfield and the North", so I think they should be in the archives, at least in the "prog related" section.

Okay, this is obviously another joke. His name is "HETFIELD", and he has no connection to Hatfield and the North. And to many listeners, Metallicka is a huge wall of noise and crapola.

Still, you've got to admit that he has a huge influence on Hatfield And The North, as well as other Canterbury bands.

Which reminds me: what ever happened to the discussion about 50 cent being added to space rock, together with Dr. Dre???

Sorry, I disagree. We all like non-prog bands, but that doesn't mean they should be on this site. There was a Simple Minds thread a while back. Simple Minds is fantastic band that most people know nothing about (the band recorded Don't You Forget About Me on a whim in one afternoon for a movie soundtrack, they didn't even write it, and they basically hate the song) But that doesn't mean Simple Minds should be on this site, nor should Metalllica. Bands on this site should be Progressive with a capital P, as opposed to lower case. |

Many people say that, though, for Trash-Metal their music is pretty soft a lot of time, WITHOUT too much noise.

I see no reason at all why Metallica shouldn't be in the archives : "Master of Puppets" is practically THE definitive Progressive Metal album, with "And Justice for All..." taking it to the next level. Those two albums alone out-prog many "prog metal" bands already in the archives, and without them, prog metal probably wouldn't exist. |

Look, any band whose members lower their heads and swirl their hair around, and seriously believe they are musicians, DO NOT belong in the prog archives. No hair swirling. That is not cool and never was cool. If they're already in, get them out. If they are not in, keep them out. No hair-swirling! |

Iron Maiden had progressive moments in songs - none of their albums are progressive. Metallica produced 5 albums that progressed the entire metal genre, two of which are bona fide Prog Metal albums (Master..., and Justice...) - and I'd argue strongly for two others (Kill... and Ride...). Metallica were influenced by far more bands than just Iron Maiden - indeed, the influence of Diamond Head (the original prog metal band) is strong, as is that of Metal Church, Budgie, Misfits, Rush, Killing Joke and Bleak House.
Genesis were only prog from 1970-1975 in some people's opinions. Even if you consider them prog up to Duke, that's less than 30% of their entire output. But the point is, Metallica were Prog. |

You can even compare the simple trashy elements from metallice with the gods of iron maiden...and stating that maiden has not released a single progressive album is again an pretty silly statement....and i also wait to see 10 prog bands that are clearly influenced by metallica on a 100% if their output And if all those metallica albums you have listed you think are progressive you CLEARLY have a very strange defintion on what is progressvie...but you think radiohead is more progressive than the mars volta and also you think queen is progressive So i leave it at that, as said before i suspect that your favourite bands suddenly become more progressive just because they are your favourite bands... |
