Coldplay. Just solid, atmospheric Britpop. Don't like all these metal/punk bands much, either.

Life is like an avantgarde play because tuna.

I picked APC, but would have gone for SOAD. But due to SOADs' increasingly watered down and poppy music (BYOB, anyone?), I overlooked them. Their first 2 or 3 albums were decent and mildly proggy in places (Streamline on Steal This Album) but this Mesmerise/Hypnotise bollocks is ridiculous. Most of their fans are little mini-mosher twats as well.
I'm so prog, I clap in 9/8

I used to like Qotsa but I listened to them little much, maybe, but anyway nowadays I bored with their songs in less than a minute. So I voted for SOAD. I like Tenacious too but they just aren´t even close to soad.

I really liked ADF at first - but it gets a bit samey after a while.

I prefer "proper" dub like Augustus Pablo, the Scientist, early Sly and Robbie, almost anything recorded at King Tubby's, etc.

If you prefer a more "modern" sound to dub, then the On-U archives have loads of really well crafted dub, from Dub Syndicate and Prince Far-I, Mark Stewart and the Mafia etc. under Adrian Sherwood's expert production.

Check out the samples;

On the poll - Coldplay - "A Rush of Blood.." awesome album! However, also like NIN and QOSTA. SOAD - not consistent enough for me but liked "Toxicity".

Bands not mentioned: Muse, RHCP, Faith No More, The Smashing Pumpkins - I am sure there are many more that could be added

Even though Audioslave contains members from each of those bands they sound nothing like them. The band doesn't play with the intensity that they did in their RATM days and Cornell is wasting his voice with Audioslave because he sings nothing like he did with Soundgarden, where his vocal work was absolutely outstanding.

Audioslave is a sub par band.

Agreed. The first Audioslave album was such a huge disappointment compared to the expectations I had for the band. I love RATM and Soundgarden on their own, but there's not enough "oomph" in Audioslave imo, it gets dull.

From the list I'd say Queens of the Stone Age, my favourite band however is Monster Magnet, one of the coolest rock bands on the planet

Edit: And who the heck is CKY?

I picked Beck, as the most original and inventive of the lot.

Coldplay undoubtedly sell more records than practically anyone else - I read somewhere they'd caught up with or overtaken the Beatles - so that must mean something. Their music is incredibly accessible, with very catchy melodies - and has a "nice" ambience that I find inoffensive enough. But I'd hate to rate them above Nine Inch Nails or System of a Down, who are both excellent.

The RHCPs are better than all of them, of course

Thanks for the support on that one.

To all the TMV fans remeber that Flea and John Fruscianty played large parts on both albums.

I think Jon Schaffer would be extatic that you called his (and I emphasize - his) band mainstream and modern. I'm not so sure, though, he will be happy with the term rock being subscribed to his music.

I'm gonna go with system, but all of those bands are pretty slim pickings, IMO.

Include some good groups in the survey and maybe I'll respond-like Franz Ferdinand, the Shins, the Strokes, maybe the White Stripes.
