Ok, good answers people.
However, but what if there is a melody which is perfect, and is considered to be so by everyone not depending on taste. It is obvious that such thing doesn't exist (yet), but do you think music can seriously reach perfection, or will there always be ways to improve? (again, I'm trying to treat that question in a more philosophical way, music as we know it now can't be considered perfect)

Bebie:

Actually, if memory serves (and, unfortunately, at my age, it doesn't always...), there is a computer program at some university or somewhere which is working on that exact thing.  I wonder what's taking it so long...

Peace.

Music and anything that is basically perception and individual taste is always going to be different for each person.  I can safely say for me, that ELP's Closer to Believing (among other of their songs) is for me.. perfection.
THIS IS ELP

With all my love to DT, they are not and cannot be the best of all time.

The answer is simple:

Led Zeppelin!

They are... perfect, like Bach. I had that association many times, now you guys reminded me...

My sentiments exactly, but one will get you ten 99% of
the people in here have no idea who that is.

..And, by the way, that's a pretty arrogant statement.

Seriously,

I believe that an elitist attitude, and feeling you know
better, or are more cultured, or, more intelligent than
the majority is a limiting perspective.

"I get it, but 99% of THEM don't get it."

After all, this is a prog-rock forum.
What did you expect? Drones?
That's classic.

If you look at my statement again it was said with a twinkle, i.e. tongue in cheek, so it was not arrogant at all.

I think whats perfect at one moment can be not perfect the next, and vice versa.
As for whether or not there can be perfect music at any time, idk.

What do you think would happen if you listened to "perfect music"?  would you, like, explode?
No, her name is not Beatrice.

I accept that at a certain time, a certain piece of music might feel perfect for me, but there is no music that I could find perfect at any time.

I'm far from finding the perfect music to me, but Can and Godspeed might be be the closest (a mix of the two would be GREAT!). I want weird, really psychedelic, but melodic music... wish me good luck fi,ding that...

You probably need to make the perfect music by yourself... but it wont be the perfect music to others... from a certain point, every music is perfect I guess...

Vive le Québec libre!...

    Ok, here's my pick:

This is the closest to a perfect pop record I've heard in all my life. However, it's not entirely perfect, but who is...
