I am sick and tired of listening to you old folk talk about how you don't enjoy quality acts such as Dream Theater. One reviewer said it's not to his taste...ok then that's fine. So let me have my say now. If i want to fall asleep or have a good laugh, I'll listen to Yes or Genesis or Pink Floyd (etc). C'mon you oldies...this music is not as great as you all say it is. I am a 25 year old bachelor of music composition graduate and have been playing the keyboard, guitar and drums for a little over 10 yrs, so I AM a musician, unlike most of you. But instead of going into a lengthy essay about why this music is just plain boring, I'll just do what so many of you people do and say 'it's not to my taste'. So there you have it, I voiced my opinion and I don't care if you don't care but I am honest to God when I say that crappy old school prog rock bores me to tears and no matter how many times I listen to Yes' 'Close to the Edge', I will never understand why you guys get boners over it. The music is nothing earth shattering. But it's fine, if you oldies get so excited and this sorta stuff makes your hair stand up...well that's fine...but seriously now, just make sure you know there are educated musicians like myself who simply find it all boring.
Steve.
PS: I posted this on the front page but I guess no one reads it.

This post is insulting, ageist, obscene, questions the sincerity of Archive reviewers, is denigrating to the main reason for the Archives' existance (classic prog), and leads me to wonder: Why is this person here?
BTW, it was my review that said a DT album was "not to my taste." My review was meant to serve other Archives prog fans who, like me, simply do not care for modern metal. That CD was my first sustained exposure to "prog metal," and before listening I had thought prog metal would be less metal, and more prog (and thus here) but I found this not to be the case. Whatever. Some like metal, some don't, and those who don't must be served too, if they are to spend their money in an informed manner.
In short, what I wrote was a respose to a recording: an album review -- not an attack on an entire generation or genre (unlike the above post).
Notice that I have reviewed only ONE prog metal album. I am not out to "make a point," or skew any ratings.
BTW, sorry for the late response, but I had just noticed this thread. For some reason, I often avoid the main forums....

I am thinking of doing an experiment:
Sitting in a room with a 5-CD changer and listening to Big Generater, Talk, Union, and Open Your Eyes over and over for 16 hours straight.
Do you think this will make me like these albums more or dislike them more than I already do? | | |
I think you might be pushing it. Anything would sound good after those repulsive albums.
HEE SORRY!!!
Ok, 90125 is really bad, but I have Big Generator and Union to. Ok Union is praticly all bad, but at least 4 tracks need A LOT OF RESPECT!!! And Big generator, what is you're problem about it? It because it is not a progressive style? Hey, it's not because something do not seems to be standard that mean it is bad! I HAVE BEEN A LOT IMPRESS BY BIG GEN!!!! It is more a Rock style than a Prog one, but it's still a good music!!!! If you are able to feel the feeling of these album, you're suppose to feel a lot of good emotion which are very nice and that will make you feel better.

If someone says that they don't like a certian kind of music, people get angry. If you're angry, the best thing to do is to not post. This applies to both "oldies" and younger proggers. The problem is that people ignore this option, and threads like this end up being 6 pages long.
C'mon people, think a little.

You have read DT15's posts and can obviously see that he is not a well person, so why should anything he writes upset you. Be kind and condescending to the unfortunate, but don't drag it down to a flaming match.

yea, yea, yea. It just really pissed me off. The guy claims to be a 25 year old educated musician. He just pasted his original post as a review for two all-time classics just to drag down the score. He acts like a 10 year old. I guess we should treat him as such

Perhaps I should reiterate:

DT15, aren't you going to jump in and defend yourself? You were doing
quite a bit of pontificating and bloviating when you started this thread. Why
have you gone stealth?

I meant screw up technically, by making it wide with the smileys, thus hard to read

Because I live in england and was on a long lunch break and had to get back to work. It's early now so I have to get to work. But in reply to pretty much 90% of people in this thread who just don't get it or just didn't read all my posts:
Please read ALL of my posts in this thread, but if you couldn't be bothered then once again I will reitereate:
my first post was a joke and I love yes, genesis and many 70's prog. I thought this was extremely obvious but I guess even repeating myself 6 times isn't enough for you people so here goes again. I am currenrly writing a review based on musical analysis on close to the edge and should be finished in a week or so as it is very lengthy and detailed. I am NOT bashing Yes as you will read in my review, but i am saying that it's not as musically proficient as many of you make it out to be. Now please stop crying.
For anyone new posting please understand this post or read ALL my posts in this thread as I've made this point clear (i hope) about 5 other times.
Steve
