You don't know enough good (prog) metal then, because good metal albums are just as varied as good prog rock albums, ESPECIALLY the concept albums.
I recommend you make a "leap of faith" and buy one of these albums and listen to it in its entirety:
- Adagio - Underworld
- Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
- Pain of Salvation - Entropia
- Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
- Shadow Gallery - Tyranny
- Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite
You will notice that these bands are extremely good at adjusting their songs to the respective moods ... the vocals, the instrumentation ... everything.
