These are what I consider the best of the best in sci fi films. I kept the Star Wars and Star Trek films down to what I think are the 2 best in those series.
I don't know what the hell happened, but I put 2001 in at the top and for some reason it's not showing up. I think we got an error here. Oh sh*t! I put it in the poll question! DUHH! Can someone delete this so I can redo it please? Edited by marktheshark |

This pisses me off. This is the only forum I've ever seen where you can't correct your own mistakes. I sent an e-mail to max about this, they need to fix it. I'm going to put up another one. Edited by marktheshark |

^^^^ this would be the greatest sci-fi movie ever made, if only someone would make a good movie out of it. the original movie was godawful. |

considering my hairstyle I should have to vote for THX-1138 , but none of the above. "Phase IV" by Saul Bass. another good one is "Silent Running" by Douglas Trumbull

Am I the only sci-fi lover that thinks that movie is overrated? All the performances are wooden, the pacing of the movie is too slow,Ford's voice over is terrible.Visually stunning though. The story that the movie is based on,Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep,is much better. |

of the list I like "Twelve Monkeys" (a movie that many seem to have failed to misunderstood; at least that's the impression one gets when looking at the comments in the IMDB. hardly any of the reviewers understood the meaning and importance of the last scene), "A Clockwork Orange", "Brazil" and "Altered States". I voted for "Phase IV" and "Silent Running" though, because they are two forgotten little gems. although at first glance these two movies seem to have very little in common (one deals with intelligent ants, the other with a team of astronauts caring for the last forests somewhere in space), there is a common theme: how men react in a claustrophobic situation

You seem to like the less bombastic and extravagant films there Baldy. You got good taste, I like some of those too. Silent Running is good, seen that a few times. Phase IV on the other hand I've heard of but haven't seen it yet. There are 2 post-apocalyptic films you may not be familiar with, On The Beach and Testament. Both very intelligent and well acted. Check 'em out if you haven't already. Edited by marktheshark |

I saw "On the Beach" (the 1959 version with Gregory Peck, not the 2000
remake for tv). I can't find anything about a movie named "Testament"
though; are you sure about the title?
one movie I really like is a tv movie by Rainer Werner Fassbinder in 2 parts, "Welt am Draht". I saw it a few years ago. that movie has the incredibly high average voting of 8.3 (out of 10 possible) from a total of 196 voters in the IMDB; the highest average result I ever saw Edited by BaldJean |

Testament is a 1983 film starring Jane Alexander and a young Kevin Costner. It's available on DVD at www.deepdiscountdvd.com But this is region 1 though.
