Prodigal (from In Absentia) has been one of my big favourites for some time now, although Waiting was the one that really got me to sit up and take notice of PT late last year.

Although it is one of their poppy songs, and its guitar solo has caught some flak, I just love "Where Would We Be", including that feedback solo.  I just love it, melody, arrangement, lyrics coming together effectively

WTF!!!?? Man! I was just thinking a couple of hours ago to start a thread about Porcupine Tree's best song. Guess you were faster than me, toothpick2112.....

Anyway...... these are my favorites:

* Baby Dream In Cellophane (the first song I heard from them, love at first-hearing)
* Prodigal
* Gravity Eyelids
* Hatesong

In Absentia is by far their greatest album, IMO.

My favorites change constantly, but as of now they are:

Idiot Prayer, Mellotron Scratch, Halo, Deadwing. My favorite album of theirs is by far Signify.

Arguing on the internet is a lot like the special olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded.

Trains is the greatest one... with these clapping hands effect and great lyrics (never found the link between them and the rest of the album... which is supposed to be a concept one) anyway this intense song make me feel weird everytime I listen to it... One of my favorite ever!

-Trains
-ASBNH
-Strip The Soul
-Russia on Ice
-Baby Dream in Cellophane
-Even Less
-The Sky Moves Sideways phase one
-Blackest Eyes
-Waiting Phase One

I can't pick just one. Porcupine Tree hasn't made a bad album to date. In Absentia is their best though.

Why would we hate you for that?!?

Arriving... is probably my favorite track right now too. Though I have yet to discover further back than the last two albums, so that could change.

  • The Sound of Muzak ( The first PT track I ever heard!)
  • Gravity Eyelids
  • Blackest Eyes
  • 3
  • Strip the Soul
  • Arriving Somewhere but not here
  • Waiting
  • Trains

I don't have a big collection of PT - I like everything they have done (so far) "In Absentia" is my favourite album (for now)

I find it much easier to name a single best songs by the band which is far from being favorite. I have all studio albums by PT plus "Coma divine Live in Rome" (the best by them). However I do not consider them anything close to genius - just OK band, playing just OK music, quite listenable to - that's all. My favorite song by PT is "Radioactive Toy" - mesmerising stuff, and sounds live even better that in studio.
