Awesome - so bad they were brilliant. Most couldn't play. A few could, including a former colleague of mine who is a classically trained pianist. The only problem was, in this lot she was playing the violin which she had given up at about 7. They agreed what piece they were going to murder, when they would start and when they would finish. Thereafter it was every man or woman for themselves!! Bizarrely, they sold a lot of albums.

Agreed - Brian Eno was also involved with the Portsmouth Sinfonia. They were on the cutting edge of something or other and pushed a musical envelope that had never been pushed before. Mind you, I also love the sax solo on Ron Pate and the Debonair's I Talk To My Haircut, which sounds as though whoever is playing has only just figured out which end you're supposed to blow down.

For sheer unadulterated bilge received as though it's some kind of blinding divine revelation it has to be the most stupidly overrated band of the last 20 years
