UB40. I had the misfortune of seeing them live back in the eighties with a
friend who loved them. The worst thing about UB40 is that their first album ("Signing Off") was a very good dub LP, and quite creative, and the second ("Present Arms") wasn't bad. Then they discovered the way to make money was with pop reggae crap like "Red Red Wine", with those horrible nasal vocals, and that's what they've done ever since. |

I like Angelwitch too... I'd have to nominate all of the dreadful rap/dance bands (rubbish like Faithless) that have polluted the music scene for too long, and the mind-boggingly boring indie bands like Coldplay and Athlete which we are always told are 'amazing', but are frankly, not! |

I'd say that 'dance bands' like Las Ketchup is pretty much the lowest you can get. If not the teenage bands made up (that is, taught the right dance moves etc) in programmes like Pop Stars. (Bad shivers down my spine...) |

Bon Jovi and all 80's Hair/Glam metal (Crue , Ratt , Wasp , T S and the likes). All new wave bands not knowing how to play an instrument other than programming those ugly beatbox integrated synths (Human League etc...) ------------- let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

She may be all that, but her voice is fantastic, and her technique is flawless. She even improvises a lot - listen to Car Wash. If you say that her singing sucks you're either an idiot or just ignorant. I connect that music with idealism less than you seem to do. I have no sympathies towards communism itself (even less towards right-wing!); I listen the music as only music. The pathos in it serves for the strong emotion in music. But honestly, they were singing generally for equality of people and against unjustice all over the world. I don't think Stalin was anyone's hero - anyone's who KNEW anything, but what DID they know is another question. --- Anyway, I didn't mean only Agit-Prop, but also pure love songs ('Kalliolle kukkulalle, 'Sinua sinua rakastan' etc). Kaj Chydenius is a wonderful composer: he puts much more in 2-3 minutes than most 'schlager' songs have in 5 minutes. Of course you don't have to agree on a musical sense either. |

Matti: Can't say anything about the other works of Chydenius, I didn't know "Kalliolle Kukkulalle" was even his song! But Agit-Prop was part of the communistic movement of 60's-70's supported mostly by the students of that time. IMHO their equality of men stands for the equality of working class only, and the unjustice in the world is represented by the rich people. I can't accept this view, because I can't see any other difference between people which form the labour and bourgeoise, exept that the other people have money more than the other do. Basicly they are same kind of monsters both. |

The NWOBHM band? Or the other one? If it's the Metal one, I can't imagine why you'd think so ill of them. Their S/T ranks up as among the best of the genre. They were one of the bands that Metallica ripped off, certainly. |

The white stripes are a great band. There just not complex and pompous like like prog music. They are a gazillon times better than todays hip hop. Music dosn't need to be complex to be good. Songwriting also counts. |

Awesome - so bad they were brilliant. Most couldn't play. A few could, including a former colleague of mine who is a classically trained pianist. The only problem was, in this lot she was playing the violin which she had given up at about 7. They agreed what piece they were going to murder, when they would start and when they would finish. Thereafter it was every man or woman for themselves!! Bizarrely, they sold a lot of albums. |

They were on the cutting edge of something or other and pushed a musical envelope that had never been pushed before. Mind you, I also love the sax solo on Ron Pate and the Debonair's I Talk To My Haircut, which sounds as though whoever is playing has only just figured out which end you're supposed to blow down. I'm surprised by most of the choices here. We are talking about the worst band, not simply bad or very bad ones. My choices would be Milli Vanilli (well duh), the monstrosity known as Modern Talking, and 50% of the Polish mainstream musical scene (I repeat, mainstream, we have many world class jazz and classical acts, and some very cool prog, folk and metal). ------------- "In war there is no time to teach or learn Zen.
