70’s Spanish Prog

Canarios is the best Spanish band in my opinion.

For me one of the best of the period is:

- Imán Califato Independiente - Califato Independiente

And I strongly agree with Carakhallo. Alameda should be included in the Archives: their first two albums are amazing!

We had recently discussed Canarios, and I still don't get it: I would like Ciclos much more had they left the four seasons out of it!

Crack is one of the very few spanish prog bands that doesn't use flamenco elements in their music. It is nonetheless one of the best spanish prog band I know, in the same stule as Locanda delle fate I would say.

Other noteworthy spanish prog bands :

Vega, a fusion band

Magdalena, they include flute in their music

Cuarto menguante, one of the most under-rated spanish prog band

Borne, 'Exprime la naranja' is one of the best fusion album I ever heard

Unfortunately I didn't notice a mention of any of these bands in the archives.

Moreover, if you like folk-prog, check out the portuguese band Banda do Casaco : 'Coisas do arco da velha' recorded in 1976 is an essential folk-chamber music-prog offering from this wonderful band. And once again, a band that isn't present in the archives

In this thread is missing an essential english folk-symphonic prog band : Carmen, whose first album 'Fandangos in space' is very Gentle giantesque, full of fun, and as you may guess some spanish flamenco influences.

All the above-mentioned bands are pure genius IMHO.

Difficult question: many people in this forum will tell you it's a wonderful idea; others, like myself, will tell you that, if you really like the four seasons, you will find them destroyed in this crappy album. Stay with I Musici for that wonderful music!

But you know, it's only my oppinion, and I know that maybe I'm not objective, since every time I listen to this album, I can imagine this guy, Teddy Bautista, playing the keyboards, and I get a stomach ache. Mr. Bautista is heading the SGAE, the Spanish RIAA, and is really loved by internauts, who usually wish he . Oh, by the way, Mr Bautista, do I own the original Canarios CD or not?

I'm glad that you like Triana, but please consider that the eponymous album is to Triana the same as ABACAB is to Genesis, or Big Generator to Yes, or Love Beach to ELP, or... you get the idea... take my advice and go for any of the first three albums by Triana instead.

If you like prog with Spanish folk influences try to get Mezquita - Recuerdos de mi Tierra, or Alameda - Alameda, or Alameda - Misterioso Manantial. If you like music with a harder edge then maybe Medina Azahara is for you, and if you like jazzy influences as well then you should try Imán Califato Independiente (mostly instrumental).

Of course, other members will give completely different advices, so you better go and explore yourself...
