I don't like this.
The visitors can scan through the genre their interested in easily enough. This just takes quite a lot of space from the space that should contain information about the album itself.

Am I correct in thinking someone requested this feature a while back, M@X? It rings a bell.

Anyway it's potentially quite interesting, but would it perhaps be better if it just listed bands(rather than a whole string of albums by the same band)?

How is the correlation made, exactly? Is it based on the number of people who gave ratings of the same, or a higher, star-rating to the different albums? The power of SQL never ceases to amaze me.

A minor point on the English used:

"Prog fans who likes JETHRO TULL Thick As A Brick also likes theses sames genre other bands albums:"

should be changed to something along the lines of:

"Prog fans who like JETHRO TULL Thick As A Brick also like these other bands' albums in the same genre:"

(or, if you were to change the feature to list just band names, something like this: "Prog fans who like JETHRO TULL Thick As A Brick also like these other bands in the same genre:")

It's an interesting feature. And it works! - But IMO it takes too much space before the reviews which are much more important.

I like that a lot Max. I would suggest you limit it to say 3-6 albums, so that it doesn't flood the page.

A minor spelling error at the moment, also like theses sother bands'   should read "..also like these other bands'..."

The idea is great, but i agree with fitzcarraldo, it would be better to list those bands that belong to that "sub genre", not the albums, it really pulls out the dynamic of the page, which is to search for yourself the albums that you want. It's better to have an idea of bands similar style. Also, in some way, this would be a kind of sell out of those albums that are truely great and important in prog history, this would be really diminishing the work of many many others whose music is not at the level, or simply wasn't released "at the time". Overall, list bands, not albums.

Another thing, it kind of interferes with the experience of the viewer, being the size of this feature kind of big and distracting at times when you just want to see the reviews of an album. You should think also in those whose connection is not that fast and the loading may turn kind of annoying.

Just an opinion, but good try! keep on the good work .

Nice try

I had to paste this quote didnt work!

I m not trying anything, I dont want Queen in. I misunderstood the point, but now I get it, and I dont think much of it.

Heres an e.g why!

I looked up Vapor Trails by Rush, and the recomende similar albums were by Kansas and Suchlike. Well wheres the similarity? The bands may be the same genre, but the albums certainly aint!

It's a nice idea, but the problem I have with it is the same some others have obviously as well. Somehow the suggestions do not fit all the times well. Sometimes there are bands and albums promoted which have nothing to do with the specific album. I don't know which criteria are being used for it, but at least within Art Rock subgenre it does not work well many times.

Yeah, I like it too, but the art-rock subgenre is definitely a problem. It has under its name bands such as Supertramp, Anekdoten and Uriah Heep. Those who have heard all of them, will probably agree that these bands have basically nothing in common.

But as I've said before, I like it

Actually this Beta suggestions are very daring ones , often referring to better known albums when investigating an obscure album.

I wrote this morning a review on Uzva's debut album. They are almost like an acoustic chamber music but meddling in also folk and a bit of jazz. This Beta thing present on the album is :

*BETA Prog fans who like UZVA Tammikuinen Tammela also like these other bands' albums in the same genre:
(based on ratings)

JETHRO TULL
Aqualung

JETHRO TULL
Thick As A Brick

JETHRO TULL
Stand Up

JETHRO TULL
Minstrel In The Gallery

JETHRO TULL
Heavy Horses

JETHRO TULL
Benefit

JETHRO TULL
This Was

TRAFFIC
John Barleycorn Must Die

If anything when reading up on such an obscure Uzva album , should the recommendations not be equally obscure albums by equally obscure bands, assuming that if you are investigating UZVA, you already know of those well known albums presented here. Not only is it of limited interest but it can affect the credibility of such an approach. Especially if the suggestions are a bit goofy or totally unrelated as it is the case here. Sure Uzva fans will also like TULL but also so many more things that this selection is severly limited. Obviously you are using some form of marthematics to get at this selection within the genre of Folk Prog. Uzva can be likened to ALAMAAILMAN VASARAT , MANEIGE , GATTO MARTE and a few more I forget now as I write.

You are right SEAN TRANE but the current BETA alogorithm search to get at this selection within the same genre.

If I do it for the WHOLE PROG SCENE it is less interesting ...

And it's always the same 3-4 albums (Foxtrot, Selling, The Lamb, In the court , Close to the edge ... )

So that's why I make it in the SAME GENRE..

Any suggestion exept that we could only list BAND NAME instead of albums...

Thanks...

I just added review of INDEXI "Gold 1" and this Beta shows several "related" albums that the reviewer also like. Among them is also ASIA "Asia" of which I have very bad opinion and you can see my review of it under nickname "Seyo". So I guess this algorythm is making mistakes....

I'm afraid there's a big mistake.

I reviewed Edge's album Suction 8 and one of the related albums is Antonius Rex (which I have also reviewed) which has absolutely nothing to do with Edge.

Please get Antonius Rex off Edge's page. This is completely false and I could even say damaging and insulting to Edge's music.

This is very strange indeed.

I've discovered that the related albums given are in fact albums I've also reviewed. Surely this can't be a good enough reason !!!

I've checked a couple of them and the related albums given are absolutely wrong.
