They are among my top-favourites, but NO, not the best...sorry, don't agree Genesis (70-76) is the best IMO

I think you'll find that while early Genesis were all asleep on stage ELP were certainly not. |

ELP are very good indeed, the only complaint i have is that sometimes they can go a bit overboard with the keyboards, perhaps too much to take in, some songs get dragged down by extensive instrument passages. Very good band though from the first few of their albums i have heard. The first supergroup i think, and they have a great sound for a three piece. I'm not very keen on pictures at an exhibition though. Tarkus is my fave.
Greatest of all? not in my book, they are 2nd tier prog in my eyes. |

Yes, such statements seems very odd, coming from a proger...IMO prog IS music that has much to give. Edited by flowerchild |

They are soooooo good. Especially from 1970-1974. That stuff can compete with the best of them. Having said that, I believe it eventually comes down to something like this:

They're....up there. Not one of my personal favorites, though I do have quite a few of their albums. One has to be in a certain ELP mood. When I do listen to them I enjoy their music, but they're not the best. Choosing a best is a hard thing to do. I'm juggling King Crimson, Genesis (early to mid seventies) and Van Der Graaf Generator. |
