The funny thing is: I know these lines so well that I automatically read the right text. Did not even note typos.

Not guilty this time! Yesterday I typed it, but today it was copy and paste!

Well that's a very nice one. lovely lyrics you all wrote there (except the german which I do'nt understand at all).
I was'nt surprised many of you quoted "Dogs" cause it's amazing all the way. my lines from that masterpiece would be :
you got to be trusted by the people that you lie to
so that when they turn their backs on you
you'll get the chance to put the knife in.
and even more :
and you believe in heart everyone's a killer.
I'll add two more not yet mentioned :
everybody got to elevate from the norm ! - rush (vital signs, the closer of moving pictures).
the angels have fallen, they've all gone away. it's you that must find them by living each day - kansas (angels have fallen on monolyth)

Sorry everybody, I'll give you a translation of the poem by Rückert, that Mahler used in a song:
I have lost touch with the world where once I wasted so much of my time. Nothing has been heard of me for so long that they might well think me dead.
Indeed, I hardly care if the world thinks I am dead. Neither can I deny it for I am truly dead to the world
I am dead to the bustle of the world and repose in a tranquil realm. I live alone in my heaven, in my loving, in my song.
Beautiful... The last four lines were the ones I initially quoted.
Before I have to call my lawyer, I copied this from my CD booklet: I'm not responsible for any wrong translation!!!

Not the best of translations, but then rhymed lyric is always difficult to translate. I'll give it a try though (I used to be a professional translator), but need some time for it (the problem is to translate the lyrics in a rhymed form without distorting the contents too much; it is possible though, I have done it before.) Expect my translation by tommorow.

I love those lines... Strange, but true. Piece of cake to find out where they came from, I guess...

Maybe we should ask threefates to help us...

Why? Because the voice that sings it is just as beautiful as the words?? So lets cover a few more of those mind tingling lyrics...
- Just take a pebble and cast it to the sea. Then watch the ripples that unfold into me. My face spills so gently into your eyes, Disturbing the waters of our lives.
- Have you walked on the stones of years? When you speak, is it you that hears? Are your ears full? You can't hear anything at all.
- Clear the battlefield and let me see All the profit from our victory. You talk of freedom, starving children fall. Are you deaf when you hear the season's call?
Were you there to watch the earth be scorched? Did you stand beside the spectral torch? Know the leaves of sorrow turned their face, Scattered on the ashes of disgrace.
Every blade is sharp; the arrows fly We're the victims of your armies' lie, Where the blades of grass and arrows reign Then there will be very little sorrow, Very little pain.
-You and I are yesterday's answers
the earth of the past come to flesh
Eroded by time's rivers
to the shapes we now possess
Come share of my breath and my substance
and mingle our streams and our times
In bright infinite moments
our reasons are lost in our eyes
- There's no end to my life,
No beginning to my death:
Death is life.
- Man alone; born of stone;
Will stamp the dust of time
His hands strike the flame of his soul;
- I give you the state of statesmen
And the key to what motivates them
On the left, on the right, on the nail
Still I don't see a man in a mansion
That an accurate pen won't puncture
Go to town, go to hell, go to jail.
- So be closer to believing though your world is torn apart
For a moment changes all things and to end is but to start
And if your journey's unrewarded, may your God lift up your heart
You are wind blown, but you are mine.
- A tattered cloak behind the throne
It is unseen it is not known
Behind this face I am alone
I would give everything I own
To touch you...

Hi
Brand new to this forum. Love prog and dunno how I ever missed this great site and forum.
How about " The leaded window opened to move the dancing candle flame And the first Moths of summer suicidal came."
Remember first time I heard that.
Cheers

This made great impression to me:
"God!" sang the sea goat, "is always on both sides"
"Change" sang the sea goat, "is constant as the tides"

" a salamander scurries into flames to be destroyed, imaginary creatures are trapped in earth on celuloid" (feel free to correct)
To be honest that's only what came to my head. toooooo many lyrics are memorable
"rain down, rain down, c'mon, RAIN down on me!!" for ex. Very simple, very bland= very easy to get stuck in head.

My favourite is from Billy Bragg's "Greetings to the New Brunette" -
"Here we are in our summer years, living on ice cream and chocolate kisses.
Would the leaves fall from the trees if I was your old man and you was my missus?"
This song also contains the immortal line
"How can you lie there and think of England when you don't even know who's in the team?"
