Isn't the side-long epic really what helps to define prog and distinguish it from other genres...?

Which is your favorite? (the poll would only allow 25 choises, so of corse some epics are lacking)

I choose Magma - Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh, truly a great piece of music.

Thick as a Brick. Absolutly love it . The best for Tull.

Close to the Edge, although Gates of Delirium, 2112, Tarkus, and Karn Evil 9 are all close behind.

I'm torn between Close to the Edge/Echoes/Atom Heart Mother... But, in the end, the high pitched PING always wins.

What a difficult choice...

Genesis - Supper's Ready
Yes - Close to the Edge
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Magma - MDK / Kohntarkosz
Van Der Graaf - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick

I think I'll have to go with Supper's Ready here, although I could very easily go with the much overlooked Movin On' by Circus

"Progressive.... yeah, that's it..."

Close to the Edge

Thick as a Brick is super badass though, right behind it. And maybe Echoes after that, although i prefer shine on your crazy diamond to echoes

Well I'm going for Pink Floyd's Dogs - can't beat that really!

After that I'd go for Tarkus

Not much I don't like on this poll, although Nous Sommes Du Soleil leaves me cold every time. I went for Riah Salitaahk because it was the most unexpected entry by my all time favourite band. The interplay between clarinet, bass clarinet and vocals is spellbinding. Other Zeuhl epics worthy of inclusion would be Theusz Hamtaahk and Kontarkosz, and of course De Futura and Univers Zero's Le Faulx.

Good poll, most of the good ones I know are here.

Yes is my favourite of the early seventies, so I choose Magma's Mekanik Destruktiw Kommander

I'm not familliar with all Magma's work, and I do not know which song is which most of the time, but their music is great.

Some of the current days epics are very good too.

I like Arena's long songs and IQ's to be rewarding aswell. also Fish's Plague of ghosts is good also.

From the earlier progressive days

1. Gates Of Delerium - Yes
2. Mekanik - Magma
3. CTTE - Yes
4. Thick As A Brick - Jethro Tull
5. Echoes - Pink Floyd
6. Supper's Ready - Genesis
7. Song of Sheherezade - Rennaisance
8. The Snow Goose - Camel (I always listen it as 1 big song, maybe not really an epic though)
9. The Lighthouse Keeper - Klaatu (side two of Hope)
10. Lizard - King Crimson

I'm always almost unlucky _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Id5ZcnjXSZaSMFMC Id5LM2q2jfqz3YxT

Glad to see someone vote for Rïah Sahïltaahk, I honestly didn't expect that, great epic, but not quite up there with MDK. I've recently spent a LOT of money buying the original French vinyl of 1001 Degrees Centigrades, and was compelled to this fantastic piece of music right away..
