I believe it's a great band with some progressive influencesand a few 100% prog tracks, but not enough to be considered a progressive band.

Indeed. A lot of prog influence evident, but not enough to be considered for inclusion IMO.

no no: maiden is the purest metal band you can have, so leave it to the metal genre! maybe mercyful fate could be here, but definitely not maiden; by the way, did you know that maiden rules? SURE!

Iron Maiden is pretty cool, but in no way shape or form belongs on this website.

I'd say they have their progressive elements ... Maybe it is the most progressive band out of commercial metallic bands. But I cast my "no". Because otherwise I would have to vote for adding (at least early) Elton John here too (who will say that "Love Lies Bleeding" is not prog??). Some groups/artists are just not prog oriented, but they sometimes produce a track/album which feature some prog elements.
Iván, we are again of a similar opinion

They'd laugh their heads off if someone suggested to them they were prog.

What's the deal, James, with you suggesting loads of metal bands as
prog? If you love metal so much join a metal forum, and if you don't,
then you're not making anyone laugh.

I do think that Iron Maiden do have progressive elements in a lot of their work, but probably not enough to merit their inclusion here; maybe you could term them under 'progressive metal' but even then it'd be pushing it.
