Topic: Anybody listen to early jazz.....? Posted: July 30 2005 at 13:35 |
I'm interested in early jazz. Right now, I'm listening alot to Jelly Roll Morton. As far as early jazz is concerned, Louis Armstrong pretty much dominants early jazz offerings in the music stores.
I'd like to find some Bix Beiderbecke......anybody have a favorite jazz star of this time period?

I enjoy some Art Tatum when I get to hear him (which unfortunately isn't often). Other than that I listen to swing, but mostly for the drumming. The really early stuff doesn't connect to me, sorry .

Not sure exactly what qualifies as early (I'm still exploring jazz myself) but John Coltrane is well worth a look into...

Charles Earland,Keith Jarrett,Herbie Hancock,Jimmy Mcgriff,Jimmy Smith,Thelonious Monk, Brecker brother's,McCoy Tyner,Cannonball/Nat Adderley,Ramsey Lewis,Horace Silver,Eddie Harris, Stan Getz,John Abercrombie, Larry Coryell......
Some of them started in the 50's which is early by my standards.
