Topic: Thick As A Brick Posted: April 27 2005 at 18:43 |
The legendary 1972 album, Thick As A Brick. I personally believe that this song (I consider it one song, the way it is meant to be looked at) is the best song of all time. Am I the only person here that believes this?

It isn't boring whatsoever. Every moment keeps you enthralled.

Well, remember, this is my opinion, but I do know plenty of people that agree with me.
Unfortunately, there are some who agree with you too...

As far as prog goes - Tull's Thick as a Brick is the best you can find. The only rivals are Close to the Edge and Foxtrot.

TAAB is pretty good but I wouldn't go as far as saying "the all time best". As with many long pieces, inspiration turns to "noodling" in order to fill out the rest of the album. "Tales" from Yes is a classic case. I think "Aqualung" is superior to TAAB, it has more variety and the songs build upon each other.

I love Aqualung, but I seem to be one of the minority in saying that there is no noodling on TAAB. Tales definitely has some, but I still love that album.

TAAB is one of the best pieces of Rock music of all time. I still like the live version on Bursting out.. John Glasscock is a monster on that version. Altogether it is one of the defining moments of Progressive rock music.

Yeah, there is But I see what you mean, really, I do. Me, for instance, think that Tales from topografic oceans is the best album ever and some people find that album boring

Thick As A Brick is one of the best things Jethro Tull ever did, but it's not one of the best things ever done.

TAAB is one of the few extended works where there is very little noodling - the arrangements are exceptionally tight - how dare it be compared to topographic oceans (noodling extreme!)
