Whilst not one of my favourites,Maiden are no ordinary rock band.To sell so many records at a time when anything guitar-based was seen as anathema,is an incredible achievement.

To my mind they are as prog as DT,they just dont do keyboards(much)

Iron Maiden are definitely a bit Progressive, but not close to as Progressive as Dream Theater are.

Have to agree with Reed Lover (After a year it was about time), Iron Maiden is IMO closer to prog' than Dream Theater, but with the difference that I can listen hours of Iron Maiden and only minutes of DT before getting sleepy.

They managed to create prog' tracks without keyboards, that's outstanding.

Not a 100% prog' band you're right, but they had a very interesting approach to Prog'.

Have you ever listened Rime of the Ancient Mariner? It has more changes and complex atmospheres than many songs from prog' icons, the same goes for 7th Son and a couple more tracks.

BTW, we don't have o talk only about prog' bands and I'm not asking to include them into the Archives, but Iron Maiden was a great band despite the genre.

I see no problem, there has been threads about Dylan, Bowie, ELO and even Mariah Carey

Iván

There not even 1% prog im sorry to say...I'm not desputing Iron maiden was'nt a great band in the eyes of all teenagers

& there is no problem about talk regarding the band but on a heavy metal site please..

The treads about the other artist you have stated have been removed to the bowels of the other channel & so should this band too

Actually according to Jordan Rudess and Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater is a Heavy Metal band that is heavily influenced by Progressive Rock bands like Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush and Genesis.

speaking of iron maiden, dream theater did a cover of the whole number of the beast album, they have also done concerts with bruce dick-in-son i think. I think you can buy this on the official DT website as an official bootleg

official bootleg, now there's an oxymoron!

You can see them talking about this on the tour diary of the live at budokan DVD They have also covered the whole of Master of Puppets by Metallica too but its shoddy quality.

Get Powerslave... If you don't like it, no problem... At least try the title track...

says the man with exploding head... that wink makes me nervous, am i gonna download this track to find that it is one of their least serious pieces of all?

Depends of what you consider as being serious... If to you a serious thing is Rick Wakeman dressed as a princess and Bill Bruford shaking his ass, you'll get disapointed... Sorry...
And above all, is punk

This quote leaves no room for my opinion, the main members of the band in question gave their opinion.

Maiden is also a metal band with progressive influence.

Yes, Yes and Yes That's true. If you paused your ToT Japanese tour video, you can see that they've performed an entire Iron Maiden album at their small club Osaka show.

I'm going to agree with you on there. Iron Maiden definitely has Progressive influences, but its just not quite as evident as the Progressive influences in Dream Theater. Listen to the IAW album and you'll know what I'm talking about.

The only Maiden thing i applaude is certain members are prisoner fans, but that does'nt alter anything i've stated previously

''I am not a number,i'm a free man''

Information...You won't get it..

By hook or by crook we will

I have to be honest with you King of Loss, I believe all DT members (except La Brie) are very talented) I recognize they have Prog' influence, but I find no defined structure, only many solos united by short passages of music.

But the main problem is that I like Iron Maiden, but I dislike DT's music, so my opinion is as subjective as the one from DT fans.
