Iron Maiden are a fantastic band, and have prog tendencies throughout their work.
'Phantom Of The Opera' is a classic song with many different sections- some glorious instrumental interplay.

I voted Fear of the Dark.
However, my top 5 is:
1. Afraid to Shoot Strangers (my band covers this) 2. Rime Of the Ancient Mariner 3. Be Quick or Be Dead 4. The Prisoner 5. Where Eagles Dare

Yea, that's a good idea because Maiden has a sh*tload of songs. Most of them very good :)

Still one of the best bands you shall ever find, much better than that iron maiden bollox. i saw the early days DVD and they played a song with the original vocalist and i thought it was immense, the live show didnt have any of that eye candy. Most of the songs i have heard by Maiden have Bruce on vocals and his voice is so childish as are the lyrics, songs like run to the hills, the evil that men do, bring your daughter to the slaughter. I fail to see why they are a good metal band because i can never take them seriously, they just pomp around on stage with giant eddies and pyro and all that crap and the music sounds so immature. Can anyone recommend me some really seriously crafted songs by this band (if there are any), even the recent dance of death was disapointing to me, and mostly the number of the beast, which is meant to be their best album, sounds like a complete doddle.

I think that's because we're beginning to see the light, and stop
talking about boring, pretentious and pompous bands just like Yes...

Hah, actually I kinda like Iron Maiden but not everything they made and I don't consider Bruce a childish vocalist, because its one of the most impressive falsettos I've ever heard.

Get Powerslave... If you don't like it, no problem... At least try the title track...

The list is obviously made by a metal head (Not offensive term, I have a lot of respect for REAL metal), Fantomas let the most prog' oriented tracks aside.
- The Rime of the Ancient Mariner: One of the most and better progressive tracks by a non prog' band, simply outstanding.
- 7th Son of a 7th Son: Idem N° 1
- Phantom of the Opera: Simpler than 1 and 2 but in the same vein.
- Hallowed Be Thy Name: Powerfull and atmospheric
- The Trooper: Excellent 2nd guitar.
1, 2 and 3 are very seriously crafted tracks, even 4, but The Trooper is pure power.
