Topic: subtle gems Posted: April 20 2005 at 11:28 |
There are a lot of subtle gentle very short songs amid long serious suites. My favourites as far as I can recall now include:
YES soft as a dove
GENESIS horizons
GENESIS silent sorrow of the empty boats
PETER HAMMILL ophelia
PAVLOV'S DOG preludine
YES fish
YES 9 voices
ELP still..you turn me on
DEZO URSINY hadanka (a riddle) {hope you will soon hear it after got accepted here)
BEATLES her majesty

...and in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make...

Good thought. Subtlety is a superlative that is rarely levelled
in prog's direction.
I would have to say for me it would be:
Goodbye Blue Sky - Pink Floyd
Mr Theremin - Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin
The Dusk - Genesis
I'm sure there are more but off the top of my head, I can't think of them. ![](smileys/smiley1.gif)

Apart from those mentioned above:
- Jethro Tull - Wond'ring Aloud
- Jethro Tull - Nursie
- Jethro Tull - Slipstream
- Jethro Tull - Cheerio
Not all among long serious numbers but are always appropriately placed in JT's albums - IMO ![](smileys/smiley1.gif)
