Yeah, they performed it sometime last year, so people have known about it for a while. This was first I'd heard of it though, and only because a friend of mine alerted me to it.
Sounds like a good rendition! SM can even pull of a pretty damn good Damo. I doubt it can match the original (nothing could), but it's a very nice gesture and a fine tribute in any case. Thanks for locating and sharing these clips! |

Interesting. Apparently some young German musicians enlisted Stephen Malkmus (formerly leader of Pavement, currently leader of the Jicks) to perform CAN's "Ege Bamyasi" album for a special festival appearance. The event was recorded and deemed fit for release in a limited edition on vinyl. Release date is Record Store Day, April 20, 2013. Could be interesting. Hard to imagine them (or anyone) pulling off a credible version of Can's music without their monster rhythm section, but I will be checking this out anyway because a) I love Can, and b) I'm a Malkmus fan too. http://www.matadorrecords.com/matablog/2013/02/20/record-store-day-lp-stephen-malkmus-performs-cans-ege-bamyasi/ Edited by HolyMoly - April 12 2013 at 08:45 |
